02 F-150 Cat Delete

Hey guys this is my first post. I love the forum. Ive got an 02 F-150. Right now it has all 4 factory cats straight piped with no muffler and 3 1/2 in tips. Ive heard different people say that you can/cant delete the back two cats. Im interested in making the truck louder without completely re-doing the whole setup and spending a lot of money. Can I delete 2 of the cats or not? I appreciate any help anyone might be able to offer or any other advice you can share with me.

Jake

By deleting the rear two cats, where do you mount the 02 sensors so that you don't throw a code. Also, will this give me a crackle sound. Cause I definately don't want that.......

Or, Should I delete all four and replace with two high flows?

Hey campo, I deleted my two rear cats after installing my true dual exhaust, it certainly made it louder, but with the Mangaflow exhaust, it's a nice deep rumble IMHO. Check out the vids in my sig and this new one as well: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vfMs64Nr6ls

My rear O2 sensors were originally mounted BEFORE the rear cats, so I haven't thrown any codes. You might if you lived in a colder climate than South Georgia, and I'm not sure where your O2's are mounted, they may be behind the 2nd set which could pose a couple (fixable) problems. As migdaddy said, check with your emission testing and state laws. (Luckily we don't have emission testing in So. GA)

aujake-delete the front 2, and replace the rears with hi flow converters, unless you have emissions inspections.

campo141-dont hijack threads! if the 02's are IN the converter, get the converter with the hole for the 02 sensor in the middle, if not you will get a code as did i, and i did the Gotts 02 mod and fixed it. yes it will crackle depending on what kinda of muffler(s) you have

Thumbs down

f150fella08,
By deleting the front two, and replacing the back 2 with hi-flows, am I bypassing any O2 sensor or any other problems? And no I dont live where emissions tests are a problem. I like this idea much better as Ive always heard better things about adding hi-flows as opposed to simply deleting them. Thanks for all the help.

just get 2 hi flows, take them to an exhaust shop, and they SHOULD know where to put them. there should be a sensor before and after the converter. this is what i did, i got the magnaflow 94106 and had a CEL come on, did the GOTTS 02 sensor mod and it took the light off before i got to town to get my CEL reset

Im not sure how the "thumbs down" got in my last post but I really appreciate the help. So for the 2 Magnaflow cats, the GOTTS O2 sensor mod and labor, what am I looking at?

i got my 94106's on ebay for 65.10 a piece, i think performance peddler has them for 55 or so and he charged me 50 bucks to put them in....

and the gotts mod is quick and easy for about 8 dollars. i changed my sensors while i had them out. i wouldnt do anything until you get a CEL tho

I'm not sure what the going rate for cats is these days, but when I had my stockers cut out, I traded them to the shop for $150 worth of labor, just a thought.

If they don't cut you a deal to keep them, by all means insist on keeping them, you can get at least some money out of them.

Where and how would you go about selling them if the shop doesn't take your old cats?
