Edge Evo w/K&N intake??

I just currently lifted my 08' FX4 and added the Edge to regain a little power. It has surely seemed to help so far. The truck seems to have much more get up and go to it now with the lift and bigger tires than it did before. I am wanting to put a K&N intake on as well but unsure about it working well together without having to get custom tunes. I don't know a whole lot about this stuff so I will have to say that this forum has been a huge learning experience for me. My question is, can I run the Edge and K&N for a little while until I can get custom tunes? Is it necessary to get the custom tunes? Also, I have seen where people have talked about the truck running to lean. How can I prevent this, or should I even have a problem with this on a 08' with a tuner?
All help is much appreciated. I plan on making a move soon just unsure which way to go. Thanks again!!!

Yes, you can run the Edge and the K&N. YOu have an 08, so the odds of running lean are pretty slim, though not totally nil. The 04-05s came from the factory in a near lean condition, so they are the ones that are warned against any CAI without custom tunes.

Now, having said that, the Edge programs are written for a stock intake, so you will get very little benefit from a CAI without custom tunes. The air/fuel table needs to be modified. You can get custom tunes from PHP after sending in your Edge for the conversion to a Gryphon. There are additional bebefits from the custom tunes other than the CAI. Much better downshifting and a little more power. They were definitely worth my money.

Thanks Bluejay for your response. How do I go about getting my Edge custom tuned. I am new to this and I am unsure about what all is involved. I see you mention PHP. Who exactly is that? How long does it take once you send it off and what is the price range? I am also getting a little worried about even going with the K&N because you read so many different opinions about other intakes. But hey, that's another thread. Lol! Thanks!

PHP is Power Hungry Performance, one of our sponsers. You see posts in the tuner section by ASEmechanic and Groovey Chick. They are PHP. Check out the prices at www.powerhungryperformance.com. You will need to check with them on the time required. They are great people to work with. Bill actually consults for Edge and writes their programs. They may even have a sale going on right now.
