With a 3" he would have had to change his intermediate pipe out and have a new tailpipe bent because a 2.5" system qwith a 3" muffler is interupting the velocity, which will slim down some torque. Its always best to stay with 1 complete size, whether it be true duals or especially a single exhaust. For a muffler change only, 2.5" was the right way to go.
