Question about headers/exhaust
Question about headers/exhaust
I have a 1995 Ford F150 Flareside. The truck is a 4x4. Right now the truck has a flowmaster exhaust, but its not a true dual exhaust. The couple questions i have are: I'm looking to buy new headers but don't want to spend a fortune (only 17 don't have an extreme amount of money to play with) does anyone have any suggestion. Ive been looking at Hedman Elites. Second, which would work better with my truck, longtube or shorty's? And last, is there anyway to make a true dual without it being a real pain being as because its a 4x4 the driveshaft and transfercase are right there?
Any opinions would be greatly appreciated :]

for long tubes you'll have to have someone fix the exhaust up to the y pipe. i dont know which engine you have but for the 5.0, bbk and ford racing and jba shorty headers have been dyno proven to give you the same peak hp as long tubes but long tubes give you much more low and mid range torque. IMO long tubes are the way to go but if you dont want to deal with the y pipe then shorty headers are the way to go.
i do have the 5.0, and i wouldnt mind doing a whole new exhaust, y pipe or whatever lol (gives me something to do!) i was just concerned that it wouldnt be possible with all the stuff in the way trying to make a true dual exhaust
its very possible to do true duals. the t-case wont affect the ability of true duals as long as the mufflers are behind it. some shops put the piping and mufflers over top of each other instead of side by side on our trucks, only until they get to the tail pipes, that depends on how you want it to exit.
This is my experience with heathers; since they are made of softer metal than the stock heathers they will warp if you plan on mudding or water splashing. The amount of heat the engine produces on the heathers is very extreme to the point they get red hot, so when water and or mud hits it time after time it will warp on you. I am on my third heather now, so far so good cause I haven't been mudding with them. If I had to do it over again I would leave the stock heathers on. If you don't plan to play in the mud ever then I'd flip a coin to make a decision to do it or not to do it. Related mudding video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JlRNqKuAYAY

the problem is when you have the gas tank on the driver side of the truck. you could do it if you make a good shield to keep gas from getting onto the pipes if the tank was to leak. but i still wouldnt really recommend it.
