explain the gotts mod
does this mod give you better mpg and more hp?? i mean it would be nice to have something that will help my truck breath better and perform better and i do have the money to buy a CAI and i like the look of the volent and the other CAI out there, but is the gotts mod just like having a cold air intake?
i havent done it but i know it will help in HP or MPG or throttle response or any combination of the 3. sometimes getting more air helps with power but no MPG but i think you will gett all 3. i have a K&N 77 series cold air intake and i had it on my 04 heritage f150 and it went from being 18.9mpg to 22.5mpg with average driving. highway would be maybe 25 on it but i didnt check ever. now that intake is on my 08 and it went from being 18 average to about 20mpg. 08 is heavier and is a 3.55 rear end. 04 was 3.08 rear end. both were V6 manuals. and yes they helped in throttle response and HP. giving it more air and cool air is the best thing you can do to it.
alright thanks man i dont know what to do just to do that and be done with it or get a cai which i mean i dont mind spending money on the cai what do yall recommend??

specifically i did feel like the truck wanted to get going quicker and i had seen about a 1mpg improvement but the problem is i only put one tank in before getting 33's so im back to about 15 so i cant really tell. id say its worth it to try it since its only about $15 and if you dont like it then you can spend the money for a real cai
cant you do the gotts mod to the enclose box intakes? i have an open intake. just wondering how an enclosed box would be better other than teh fact that the air will be a little cooler. its still enclosed so air is still restricted from the intake box. i went with K&N but i would recommend getting one you dont have to re-oil. its kinda a pain but not too much. plus i think for how much you pay for the volant system, it looks really cheap. you only get like half an intake. with K&N you get the whole thing, its a well known company and you get a 10year or million mile warranty on the filter. you can always set up a tube running from the front of the truck to your filter to help it get cooler air too. just by adding a $20 flex tube from autozone, i could tell a little difference over just my intake. only bad thing is K&N doesnt make intakes for the 07 and 08 V6 models and possibly the 06 year too. but V8 they have all years for 4.6L and 5.4L. that is why i used the intake i bought for my 04 heritage. had to modify it a little to get it to work but its fine now. check out my albums to see what i mean by the flex tube. its like the gotts mod but it doesnt go to an enclosed box like the gotts mod does.
it may get more air, but its hot air from the engine. a fully enclosed box is pure cold air.
This isn't a CAI. Do a search. It's using a piece of PCV in the fender in place of the narrow factory rubber piece with the EOM air box, so it draws air from the stock location.
its not cold air. for how fast the air gets sucked in you really arent getting HOT air from your engine unless you are sitting at a light. the air going thru your grill is cooling off the air under the hood while you are moving. i would think an enclosed box would only be like 10 degrees less that an open intake. plus with the flex tube like i said, it is getting air from the bumper area and taking it to the intake. an enclosed box is restricting compared to an open filter. cooler air is gonna help much if you are only getting half the air coming thru the inlet than you get with an open filter. yes cooler air helps but you are sacrificing AIRFLOW.
