welding the y pipe

welding the y pipe

ok guys... i need a little help here.... i finally got to welding my full exhaust up last week(obx longtube kit and maggie 15749)... and well, i cant get the top half of the y pipe that runs under the transfer case, or the top where the catback hooks up to the y pipe..... how are you guys getting to it? theres some leakin action goin on, and its really annoying me! any hints or tips? i got all the other stuff done pretty easy, these 2 spots are just killin me!

why dont you use a mirror so you can see what your trying to weld, this can be a pain, if not take it to a muffler shop where the dude does this all day long, i wouldnt tell you tried welding it i would say joe blow did it can you fix it

Have you tried bending the rod to get you the angle you need?

I watched the guy weld up my exhaust, and he uses an angled welder and a mirror to make sure he didn't miss anything.

im using a millermatic 252 wire welder.... so bending rods cant happen.... never thought of a mirror....... i did manage to get where the y pipe and catback meet done... now its just this one i cant get.

which is this pipe...


sorry its all covered in gravel dust...

Can you unbolt the collector and drop the pipe down enough to get the welder in there?

can i remove that cross member to the left of it with no ill effects, weld it, then put it back on?
