True Flow Intake - Will it run lean?

I"m thinking of getting a True Flow sealed air intake for my 06 with the 5.4L. I've read that putting intake kits on these trucks makes them run too lean and could cause problems without a performance tune. My question is will I have to buy a performance tuner as well?? Thanks for the help.

you should buy a custom tuned tuner and install the tune at the same time as the CAI

I have run one for 3 years without a tuner, and have not had any problems at all.

i take it you say this as -you have run your's on a wide band and recorded air fuel #'s to see ratio as that you aren't running lean??????

so do you think my truck will have a problem with running too lean a fuel mix without a programmer installed like an Edge? Won't the PCM adjust the fuel/air mix automatically?

There is cetainly the possiblity of it doing so and shortening the life of the engine. It is not as likely as it wouuld be for a 2004-2005, nut possible. The only way to know is with a dyno. An Edge does not solve the problem it's written for stock intakes.

I do not understand the desire to have a CAI when it provides very little gain with out custom tunes(an Xcal2 or 3 or a Gryphon). Just makes no sense to me to take the risk for 7 or 8 hp gain.

Is this the kit that keeps the stock air box on top of the tb?
If it is the answer to the lean question is "no it won't".
But on the otherhand save some cash and do a drop in + dwv/gotts mod?

Yes, the kit I'm looking at purchasing does keep the stock air box on the TB. The kit is a filter and a pipe running to the side wall. I'll take a look at that link. Thanks.
