Volant CAI Noise!

Is there anyway to minimize the drone from the Volant? This thing drones big time!

TIA,
MJ

Not really, that's what CAI's do. Is it in an enclosed box? or exposed? If it's exposed making a box for it might help the drone.

Theres threads where people put dyno mat and other sound deadening padding into the box of the intake to some what get rid of the sound. Try searching for that.

Yes it's enclosed, so I thought it would be quieter. I don't mind a little noise but this thing makes big noise. You can feel it through the body. I spoke with Bakns Engineering, they say theres is quiet like stock?

i've heard that a tune will take care of some of the noise. you'll never get rid of all the noise. you'll need one anyways because without a tune your truck can run lean with an aftermarket air induction system. the truck may end up running at borderline specs which wont cause a cel to pop up. the early drive by wire trucks were pretty bad about that.

WHOA you have a 04......... with a CAI and no tuner? oh boy you might want to read up on here for a bit and might want to take it off for a bit till custom tunes arrive. You might be running lean and doing damage and not know it?

I merged the two threads as you are not allowed to cross post in forums.

As to your question, you really need to read up on the problems with running lean with a CAI on a stock tune. Also, custom tunes can eliminate the drone. Use the Advanced Search feature and look up "CAI and running lean" or "2204 with CAI". That or some variations of it should give you lots to read.

Really. Sorry about that. To clarify, I had a Superchips tuner but the dealer reflashed my computer after they screwed my truck up with the dreaded spark plug change/pull both heads deal! Then numerous issues with misfiring, surging and bucking. Right now I have the stock intake with a gibson catback. Judging by most post, superchips isnt the programmer of choice... Mine is useless now anyways. Which one is the best to go with? Looks like Edge is the fan favorite. Does the Volant really choke greater than 4k? Will a filter change correct that or is it design issues?

THANKS!
MJ

Edge is tuned for the stock intake. If you want a CAI, go woith either an Xcal3 or a Gryphon. The Gryphon is the same hardware as the Edge, but is cutom tunable at PHP. I have the PHP custom tunes and love the set up. You can get great tunes for the Xcal3 frtom Troyer.
