After buying my 98 Expy. in 2004 I modified my intake "bong"after installing a K&N Filter. The next mod was my exhaust system with a Flowmaster SI-SO and a 3"dia. "cat-back". The OEM system had rusted, and became unstable due to rusty supports.
The K&N intake filter made the SUV drivable IMO. A 4.6Ltr. in a full size SUV needs all the help it can get.
The impulse response increased noticeably to at least a satisfactory performance level. There was a FRAM filter in the unit when I received it, and even though it was clean it was replaced with the K&N.
Actually I had been installing K&N Filters in my cars for the last 8 years so this mod was to be expected. I wasn't aware of any intake mods such as the "Gotts Intake" and so I did my own. I have been very satisfied with my system.
