Volant CAI 97-03

I was wondering if anyone had a volant CAI for a 97-03 5.4?

I am looking at getting the volant with the closed filter box and the dry flow filter, wanted to see if anyone else had this intake and wanted to know what they thought about it.

Thanks Erik.

This doesnt answer your question directly but i have some advice, I have a 97-03 4.6 and i was looking at either the volant or the k&n and i chose the k&n one for the open filter design and k&n sends you a dyno sheet because they test each one of their products extensively, after installing the k&n on my truck the difference was incredible, all hesitation during acceleration was gone, mid range power level was noticeable higher and overall the truck ran so much better. k&n has a reputation for a reason so that just my 2 cents worth man. good luck

look at the "gotts intake mod" I sold my K&N intake and I ran the "gotts" for a while with great results and it's within 2HP of the AF1 (which outperforms the K&N according to Troyer performance)

Sounds like you have done your homework there mister. In fact, I know you have. That said, there's no need to compare systems.

The Volant is a simple design, nothing really flashy on the outside (although I personally like the way it looks). The design, materials used and over all durability (You won't find a better filter box, anywhere!) set's it apart from the rest. And I've really seen the rest.... Hell, I built 3/ sold two/ and ones been parted out

Anyway for someone to ask about the Volant (this don't happen much), in the way that you have, - put it this way,you can stop searching for the best.

PM me for more design info and #'s, I'm not sure to many here run a Volant system.

For the set up, it's a bolt on of course and you'll want to trade up the Volant oiled element to dry for model year s you specify. A correctly oiled filter can't out flow a quality dry element. The MAF is much more stable with dry element flow.

If you plan to open up your exhaust and/or possibly run a performance tune at some point, you can mod for more Cold Air on demand with the Volant system. This benefits the higher rpm range following tweaked trans tables (shift points). Same principle as the Gotts - for the Volant -

For the best Dry Filter element = Amsoil -

There's also WIX & Motorcraft. The Amsoil is a step or two beyond and a little pricey.

Have fun with it, oh, -best system I've run to date.

I dont have a 97-03 i have a 08 lariate with volant cai and power cord dry filter. I love it, soon as i put it in acceleration and throttle responce was improved . Very easy to install. Power cord dry filter is supose to last 100,000 miles. Here is pic of mine.

do you have to cut the hole around the intake or is it just for more air flow either way im going to do it, looks more professional

Thumbs up Pretty well thought out kits

Right here. Had the OCG filter version though on my '99. Not gonna say I noticed any kind of mpg gain but there might have been some increase in hp and throttle response.

It definitely sounded better when going WOT to pass somebody! My box looked almost identical to jbrew's except that I didn't have to modify the hole in the fender wall.

It was a very well thought out kit that was definitely more 'cold air' than K&N's mostly open to engine compartment designs. Volant's CAI for the wife's PT Snoozer not quite as good though... The gasket material they used to seal the airbox to the hood fell apart within months of the install.

So mark me down for one A+ and one C+ experience with the Volant folks
