Test for plugged cats?

Has anybody ever tried to do a pressure test on their cats to see if they are plugged? I've been looking around and that's the only way I've found so far to tell if they are plugged. If you have, how did you go about doing it? Or does somebody know of another way.

the only way i've ever tested bad cats was dropping the pipes off the manifolds and see if it runs better or stronger.

Or , if you crawl under the truck in the dark while it's running and don't need a flashlight to see everything. That's a pretty good indication.

These cats usually won't plug, unless you run something like Seafoam thru them. Melts the cone chambers together and seals them off.

If you have a bunch of tinging and tanging going on after shudown, that can be an indication.

You can use a Mighty Vac tool to check the cats.

They will get hot enough to glow in the dark, just look at them at night.

Other than that - Dealership. They shove something up your pipe for you, then charge yuh for it.

i pulled the second o2 sensor from mine ,installed o2 bung ,then inserted a fitting that converted to 1/4" pneaumatic tubing-ran this to a magnahelic gauge in my truck, and ran my truck to 2nd gear to redline under load-then swapped to other side and repeated, i hear so much how oem cats don't flow, on my 03 5.4 with nearly 40 k miles , backpressure was next to nothing in each side.

another way is using an infared or laser thermometer and checking the difference between the cats. The plugged one usually gets alot higher temp.

Hey, did you race earlier today ? Think I seen yah on TV - Carlsbad maybe ? Idunno. - Anyway, it was open class, you got the hole-shot, but took a soil sample first turn then was ran over about 6 freaking times!! Then walked around the track all mummified and got hit again!!

Just curious.

sorry to disappoint u j brew-but that wasn't me-got my screen name from racing the now defunct open class of mx racing 500cc 2 stroke, last yr ran was '93,the bikes were a handful and had to be finessed around the tracklast yr i raced professionally was 01',now i just race locally and collect money in +25 A,+30 A, and 450 A.I still have the speed and ***** of the young guns, but my soon to be 38 yr old *** doesn't bounce off the ground like it did back when i was 18,plus being a company owner doesn't help

Sorry I took so long to reply - new it was going to be a long one. I'll try to be brief since it's off topic.

38 , that's nothin. You prolly don't remember the **** Burlson days then. Or Bob Hanna, Kent Howerton, Roger D, Danny "MAGOO" Chandler, Brad Lacky, Mike Bell, Broc Glover, Jeff Ward and so on... Ahh, your prolly more from the Kevin Windam era

All of those other dudes were in the first televised Superbike Open way back when I road. I think Ward won that one. I sold my last 500CR in 93 after I was married.

It all started for me in open class riding Suzuki . A 78 400RM - Year of the rocket ship if you remember. Well, that's what they calleed it back then. It was a rocket - freakin ripped all the knobbs off a new Terra-Flex with that bike. It was to cold to be riding that day - Road a Maico 450 Alpha for awhile, then went over to Husky. Favorite bike right there!! It was a 390 - Could ride 90 mph wheelies down the eway forever on that bike

WFO -
