Cat Back vs Muffler

Okay, I'm a novice when it comes to exhaust. What does a $600 cat back system do that a $170 muffler doesn't? I've read all of the posts but still don't have a clear understanding.

I have a 2004 Screw w/ 4.6L, I've already installed a K&N filter and have a SuperChips tuner and know its time for the exhaust system. I'm leaning toward a MagnaFlow system but can't decide on a muffler only or the Cat Back.

All comments are welcome.

The difference, not a whole lot- you would not see any performance difference unless your on a dyno (and even then it only a couple of hp at the top end) or the track.

The good thing with cat-backs is that the pipes come mandrel bent. If you just get the muffler you would need to find a shop that does mandrel bending if you really wanted it. That could be tough though, not a lot of shops do it
