Story: I had posted up here many times before that my exhaust was VERY close to my spare tire (less than 1/4"). Everybody said that I would for sure melt my tire. Well, 1 year later, this is what my exhaust and spare tire looks like. Towing in 100+ degree temps hasn't done a damn thing to it. Small minor rub spot on the tire, but ZERO signs of heat distortion. :beers:

Well, there have been a few threads on here about tires that have caught on fire from exhausts, so their claims were justified. I want to say that all of the trucks were 2004+ Super Crews with a dual exhaust, but I could be wrong. Guess they forgot that my exhaust is much longer and much bigger... :D

Is that a 3 inch tailpipe? Anywhoo, I would personally be a little squimish if my spare was ridding the exhaust like that. Also, is that an aftermarket diff cover-looks pretty sweet, Keeks.

Ah... More like 5". And no, it's a factory diff cover... For a 2008 F-250.

for some reason i thought that was a gasoline with dual pipes, well mines gasoline with dual 2.5" pipes on each side of the spare, maybe thats why mine hasnt melted or anything,

so with 5" im guessing thats a 7.3 :lol:

5" sure explains why the nuts on that clamp look so small compared to my 2.5". I got a half inch between my pipes and spare.

3M Rubberized undercoating. I'm in the process of undercoating my truck. Thats why I had the spare tire out. New shocks will come whenever I finally get some spare $$$.

I had a Magnaflow 15609 installed on my 02 F150 a few days ago, and the installer was complaining about how close to the spare it was.
It's "almost" touching.

It's a little close to my body panel as well (where the tip comes out)
I'm wondering if he could've done a better job or is that how they come?

Looks good! The diff cover I mean, wait to you get into Heat Transfer, then you can calculate the amount of heat transfer your new cover has vs the old cover. Those fins sure do help!!

Lets make an analogy with your tire and a condom. Would you use a condom that had been in your back pocket for a year? All that heat from your ass breaks down the rubber. Just wondering about how much the rubber is broken down in your spare...and if it could fail?

Ah... I'll let you do the math. LOL. The old diff cover is in my garage if you'd like to do it. And school is school. Not fun, but whatever. Haven't seen you or your truck around lately. You'll have to swing by my new place. :thumbsup:

Tire shows zero signs of heat distortion/effects. Just a small minor rub spot. If there were any obvious signs of trouble, I wouldn't use it. But, I have used worse tires before on a trailer... Not by choice.
