air aid or k&n

greetings, it's been a few years that i've been gone from the site. now that i'm back into a nice truck again. I see the airaid air filter. can anyone testify if it helps with gas mileage over the K & N? my truck has 63,600 miles and i plan to keep it. Can spending over 300 for an intake system minimize any wear and tear on the engine over the next 3, 4 years? if i bought the airaid system? To top it off for now, would adding dual exhaust be even better? im sure it's all better i suppose if someone wants to put money into better parts it's their choice. Peace of mind your helping you vehicle's engine but would spending 300.00 to 600.00.. really help with gas mileage over the course of 3 or 4 yrs? we are saving? thanks

I went from a K&N drop in filter to the Airaid Cold Air Intake. No noticeable difference. Both are good. Airaid's filters actually look just like the K&N. It is very likely that both are produced in the same factory but sold with different labels.

you felt no difference? you must not have gotten yours tuned or something cause thats not right......for your truck it seems like everyone loves s&b intakes....plus they arent as expensive as competitors and are fully enclosed....lets get one thing straight...you WILL notice a difference between and drop in and a intake.....especially with throttle response...bad news is with your year truck you NEED a tune after you put in your intake or else you could run lean.....but believe me it is WELL worth it and you will have no regrets....as far as fuel....over time it will pay for itself (i guess) but thats WAY OVER TIME....maybe 1mpg if that.....but you will get performane and it will last WAYYY longer than your stock one.....about making your engine last longer im not too sure about that....just go for the intake its worth it

Hey bud if you go from a drop in to a CAI you will notice the difference. I have owned K&N, Airaid, S&B and Volant on my trucks. S&B and Volant give you more noticable power and an increase in mpg over K&N and Airaid. If you want to take some of the strain off your engine and free up some power try e-fans. On this truck I have the Volant e-fans and a programmer which gives me alot of power but my mpg have gone up by 5mpg. To me thats huge. A little expensive but if you plan on keeping you truck it might be worth it.

If you do some searches and reading, you will see over and over a warning about running lean. This is especially true with the 2004s. They came from the factory in a near lean condition and if you go to an aftermarket intake without a custom tune, you stand the chance of really doing some damage. I would not dare run any aftermarket intake on a 2004 with the stock tune. Get a tuner and a custom tune, not a canned tune, and you can get the most out of your truck and a good intake.
