going for headers....

i have a 2000 f150 ext cab 5.4 with exhaust intake and programer.....i NEED more power so i figured the next best upgrade would be headers......i did my intake in a snap but headers are gonna be no walk in the park compared ot that so im asking.........would headers be the next best thing for me? and if so.... whats a good brand?...shorty or longtube?...install myself or pay? and if not......what would be a next good upgrade.......oh and btw im workin with abotu 700-1100......

I bought the full dynatech supermaxx system which includes high flow cats and the y pipe - everything bolts right up. that was about 1500$ and maybe out of your price range but you can buy just the headers for about 1000$ maybe less. Keep in mind that longtubes are different length than oem manifolds and will require you to move the cats and do fabrication - so you'd have to pay for the install unless you're very handy with tools. Moving cats is generally a touchy process too

second, the install itself is very difficult without all the bells and whistles so to speak toolwise. I did it without a lift, but if you're going to do it... i'd highly recomend one.

Also keep in mind that paying for the install will cost some serious dough.
contact a couple of shops before buying the set and get some quotes.

shorties probably wont get you the gains you're looking for - but i've never owned them - im sure someone else will tell you they dont work so i dont have to. As far as other brands go... I'll leave that to them also.

yea i dont want shorties cause ive never heard anything good aobut them to be honest.....i already checked labor prices long ago for headers and it is almost as much as the frickin headers itself!.........ive heard headers will give me around 20 hp and i dont now how much torque......would this HUUUUUGE price tag be justified with the results or not? im not thinking so honestly......but who knows

Depends on how powerful you intend on making your truck. If you do exhaust and an intake... your headers and cats become the restriction... longtube headers equalize the flow of gas out of each head so that it all transitions into the collector more evenly. - less turbulent and quicker

if you do headers cats and exhaust... then intake air is going to be the biggest restriction.

you will only see max gains out of each component when they are all working together.

By the way do some searching - there are quite a few members who have created their own fans for fairly cheap...

you may want to consider u/d pulleys. about $225 from Troyer for your year. I've heard about the same gains from pulleys as CAI. haven't got mine on yet to tell you for sure. If you have the dough i would definately recommend the LT's.
