S&B intake cause a lean condition?
yes it definatly does lean it out. but your fuel trims compensate to bring the A/F ratio back to where it was before the intake was installed. this is the reason they say to disconnect the battery after installing an intake, to reset KAM which stores the rememberd fuel trims. im just trying to help you guys out here...

Exactly ...

i already stated that. but it will not run lean enough to do any damage. your just not getting AS MUCH power. its not "unsafe"
WHere the hell is Jbrew. He the guy who is supposed to know his chit...Wonder what he says?
All you guys make strong points. I am still kuntfused...
Why then, did tuners warn that 2004 and early 2005s were in a near lean condition from the factory and an aftermarket intake could be an engine killer without ever throwing a code?

Found this earlier...
This ratio is 14.7:1, meaning 14.7 parts of air for every 1 part of fuel. Running an engine at this particular air/fuel ratio helps to minimize emissions and maximize fuel economy, but this air/fuel ratio is generally not safe to run at high RPM and/or engine load conditions

We're talking about WOT so it'd be very bad for the motor, like Wiki says even.
i already said custom tuning was nesessary on 2004s that ran lean from the factory..
My '05 was running 15:1 at WOT with an AF1 and the factory tune. Custom tuning brought it to ~13:1.
Like I said before, you'll likely be fine while operating in closed loop, but in open loop at WOT the CEL will not warn you of a lean condition.
