the noise comes more from the front than the rear, i dont think its got to do with the temp, this noise happens at anytime but only when i stop. is it bad if i take the cat. covers off?

i meant to check it when its cold so you dont burn yourself. get under the truck and hit/shake the exhaust with your palm, you should be able to track the noise down, if it is the cat cover, which it sounds like it might be, you just have to re-fasten the cover, maybe a big hose clamp will secure it, or weld the cover, get inginuitive...but remember cats get HOT, so dont use something like a rubber band.

Yea , I had that noise once - It was more of a metal chirping sound. Was really annoying going thru the drive thru lol. There's a TSB I followed and it worked for me . Wrapped some band Clamps around the heat shields -

It's the big ones in the back that get noisy.

I have the same problem. I only hear rattle when it's in drive and stopped. Tap the gas or put it in neutral, and the rattle's gone.

Yea , I strapped mine w/ 6 or 7" band clamp. I only had one in the shop at the time and it helped. I later added 3 more / two per rear cat. The noise came back 2 years later. I removed the rear cats totally and replaced w/section of pipe (One of my rear cats cracked across the bottom).

Then my front cats heat shields started to make that chirping noise lol - I removed the heat shields on those. That worked.

I later gutted the fronts - truck ran like sh^t / replaced the front cats w new/ year later - Installed LT's

I had the same problem, but it wasnt the exhaust, just found out it was a broken bracket on the tranny dipstick tube!

Yea, I found the TSB a few years back on ALLData and started posting it then. I should re-up my ALLData account, great info their as well and it's vehicle specific. I think it's only like $14 - prolly more now.

You know what else breaks ( in-fact, I just welded this last week ) - There's an exhaust bracket plate on top of the transmission mount. The muffler bracket stems from this plate and the the connects to the exhaust mid pipe with a little clamp and rubber bushing.

Well the plate fractures right behind the trans mount and makes noise on occasion/ it can vibrate.

I replaced the tranny mount and welded that plate back together last week. The tranny mount was wasted. Funny , I didn't they went bad until I removed it and seen that it was trashed/ rusted/ rubber completely wore and collapsed.

Hey , I found a pic of it !! -

The deal that says "REAR" is the tranny mount (old one) and you can see just about that whole plate I'm referring to in this pic - it cracks on the flat. You can see the crack if you look close. It's by that rectangled cutout. Starts there and goes across in the pic.
