Autozone gave me wrong 02 sensors..

Holy crap, I'm pretty pissed right now.. My entire LT header project started with these stupid O2 sensors.. Originally went to autozone, asked for 2 before cat sensors.. THey had 2 left. Parts numbers 15717 and 15718 - they were one number different because one has a longer wire, or so I was told.. Anyway, I finally got new LT headers installed with the new 02's and my MPG has gone down.. I decided to replace the rear O2's as well. Go to a different store, and they want to give me the same part! When I got home, I checked bosch website, and sure enough 15717/8 are clearly stated as after cat.. So what do i do?? I'm going to go to autozone and complain to the manager, but I don't even know what to ask for. Free 02 sensors?? His help installing them?? I'm really hoping that the new O2 sensor location on the long tubes is alot easier to get to than they old location near the manifold. Which brings me to another question.. with something so important to not mix up.. why the hell can't bosch or other companies label their sensor boxes with "before cat" or "after cat" instead of just a bunch of numbers??

Short of this story, when your doing an install with parts that aren't easily removable.. freaking double check the parts that the idiots at these stores give you.

First off, downstream O2 sensors have ZERO effect on fuel mileage.

Quit your whining. The sensors are the same, fore and aft except for the harness length and possibly the connector shell color.

The guy at the store just gave you what is in their system.

Thanks for the curt reply. Indeed, the guy at autozone said all sensors are the same for that truck.. Which makes me wonder why the hell bosch bothers telling you 15716 is for upstream and 15718 is for downstream, and makes different boxes, when they are all "just the same".

Maybe your perfect - in which case your a liar, but i'd like to see you spend a chunk of time (and chunks of your skin getting sliced off) to change a couple parts, only to supposedly find out by the manufacturer that you were supplied the wrong parts, and thought you had to do it over.. I don't know who would not be pissed in that situation.

Sucks your fuel mileage has gone down but how long have they been on the car? I would have bought OEM Motorcraft O2 sensors. Even though the Bosch are made to fit your car the Motorcraft o2 sensors have tighter tolerances which ford specifies.

All O2 sensors are the same for the truck or car they go in. This is true, I talked to Ford tech.`s about this , only the wire is different short or long both are the SAME!!!!!!!!!

P.S Bosch is what Ford uses .Thats what was in my F150 OEM from factory.

This sounds way too familiar, I had the same problem with autozone giving me the wrong oil pan. I bought a new one (bent the old one, drove over a tree that had fallen across the road) and they gave me it an the seals. I went home, let the truck cool down, then took my pan off. Scrapped the seals off..... Come to find out, they gave me the wrong seals AND the wrong oil pan. I told the guy behind the counter, the engine size, how many liters, ect.. Had to take a taxi back to autozone (dident want to wait for my girlfriend, an i wanted to get there before they closed) to get the CORRECT oil pan, I insisted he pay for the taxi, an the oil pan. They did give me my money back, but wouldent pay for the taxi so i never returned to that store again....I only buy parts at napa now.

Hope everything works out smoothly :santa:

Right?? I was expecting miracles! To be fair, i'm driving through a tank of gas before I tank it up again and really make a more accurate MPG calculation. I have been on the throttle because of the new found HP and noise. But I'm pretty certain that my fuel guage never dropped this fast before.

Like Lariat said, Bosch is what ford uses, so it is OE - I definitely checked with other members on what to use before I did the change.

What's really ironic, is that I justified the cost of all the work i've been doing by the assumption that my fuel economy would return to what it was 2 years ago (used to get 16mpg, sudden drop to 11ish).. however, if i'm now getting worse MPG after spending $1k plus, thats a real slap on the ****!

Give it a couple of tanks before you go yelling, "THE SKY IS FALLING".

After doing this did you reset the PCM? Your PCM still has to get used to the new numners, and, it takes a while.

And too, if you are on the gas more now than you were before just to relax your ears, then, you can't judge actual fuel mileage.

Drive it for 1 tank, and, keep your RPM's UNDER 2500. See how well you like your MPG then.

Patients grasshopper!
