Question Upgrades

I just bought a 2001 F-150 Crew Cab and i want to make some performance upgrades. I want to get cold air intake, throtle body spacer and full exhaust (hi flo cats and true dual). What i am wondering is...what is most commonly used for each of these? As far as the exhaust goes...i would like it to be as loud as possible without straight piping it but i would also like to be able have a conversation while driving. Im looking to spend $1500 or less (less would be nice) and i would also like to able to install these items myself. Thanks for the input.

P.S. Im not looking for just brand names, i would like to know brand and model.

since your new i'll let you in on a little secret, the throttle body spacer is a waste of your money. it's a great idea and can work on a carberated engine but not our modular fuel injected engines.

the gotts intake, outlaw, AF1 are the better intakes

high flow cats, most guys use magnaflows

exhaust is your preference by the sound you like

hope that helps.

P.S. what engine do you have?

5.4....I have been in a lot of “conversations” discussing weather or not throttle body spacers make a difference or not. All I will say is that I had them on two of my past fords (99 F250 V10 and 06 F150 5.4 Screw) and they seemed to make a difference on both of those.

So I did the Gotts upgrade today and my truck doesn’t run or sound any different. The throttle response feels like it might be a little better at speeds above 50mph but only slightly. Did I do something wrong? I don’t see how, its not that hard of a conversion.

You should try pulling out the resonator as well. Also don't expect much from an intake, its not gonna make that much of a difference not matter what you do to it.
