exhaust for 4.2

was thinkin about this setup for my truck, its an 04 heritage 4.2L, and all i have done to the engine so far is an intake i fabbed up with a K&N filter.

was thinking about either going with a y-pipe and dual thrush glass packs straight out the back, 2.5 in 2.5 out

or

getting a SI/Do cherry bomb extreme with 2.5 in and 2.25 out

which one would u do for a v6? would i lose any power/torque/mpg with either of these setups. obviously i would like to see gains on all three. also, what would you say to be the average cost of a shop to fab one of these up if i brought in the muffler?

A magnaflow exhaust IMO sounds the best on the 4.2. And i would go 2.5 SI/DO

magnaflow all the way! you get a deep idle, and paired with a CAI, alittle deeper exhaust note. glass packs make it sound like straight pipes, which sound gay IMO. check out my vids. i have a Magnaflow 3"/2.5" SI/DO.

you havent heard that many them. and the ones you have heard must sound like crap. if you get the right setup, then yes it will sound better. there is no possible way to make a v6 sound like a v8, unless you are willing to completey rebuild the motor and everything, cmas and all. we only have 2 more cylinders than them. a SI/SO doesnt soune much different than duals....it all depends on the lenght of pipe at how loud it will be. go to youtube and look at all the ford v6 videos. they will all sound the same.

Sorry, Ive heard lots of V6s that had loud exhaust and they all sound ricey. I guess some people like whiney exhaust that sounds like a swarm of bees. I personally do not...

I have to disagree I had an 96 Ford Ranger 4 banger with a custom magnaflow si/do exhaust. And the last thing it sounded like was a ricer. I honestly dont think it has much to do with the engine size, more to do with the exhaust setup. But what do i know?

Im sure ill get flamed for that...

magnaflow and gibson make the best exhaust for a v6. thats mostly because its nice and mellow. loud screaming mufflers dont sound right on a v6. just sounds like some V8 wanna be. and duals just sound wrong.

no one is trying to **** on your trucks. you posted on an open forum dont get mad when someone voices their opinion

or you could be like raptor and put a great resonating tip from autozone on thatll gain you quite a bit of HP and sound great!

I dont need to go on Youtube. All I need to do is drive around on any Friday or Saturday night and I will hear at least a dozen V6 F-150s with straightpipe exhaust.
Im not crapping on your trucks, heck my next truck will most likely be a regular cab 4x2 V6...
Im just saying that IN MY PERSONAL OPINION that V6s dont sound very good with duals or really with any kind of loud muffler (or lack thereof).
If you guys think they sound good, cool, but I dont think they do...
Relax guys, its just one person's opinion. Its not more or less valid than anyone else's and you can take it for whatever it's worth.

my bad.:o yea i dont like straight pipe v6's either. both my cousins in alabama have straight pipe(ford v6) and glass packs (dodge v6), and they sound really really rice at high rpms. the dodge sounds alittle better than the ford though.

yeah straight pipes sound like butt on a V6, but a SI/DO isnt straight pips. I honestly think the SI/SO sounds the same as SI/DO. It just looks better because you have a tip on both sides not just one. Ill be getting SI/DO in the near future.

But i completely agree with you that a V6 with straight pipes sound absolutely stupid.

only if u leave ur cats stock ;P

ive decided to go with a flowmaster 70 series Si/Do. there not overly loud or drony, and they seem to knock off some of the ricy top end. and i hear that the hp/tq gains are nice

and i can get it from advance for $90
