Is this setup too loud?
Okay, I'm curious if you guys would think this setup would be too loud and have excessive drone in the cab. I have a 2008 5.4 v8 F-150. I'm planning on keeping the stock cats, put in an X pipe, and 2 14" round body mufflers, running all 2.5" piping, straight out the rear on 2 18" 3.5" tips. I've seen and heard similar setups and this one looks pretty good (in theory) for a nice true dual setup.
Question is, will this be too loud for daily driving around town? (max speed around 40mph) and how will the sound pick up at highway speeds if I ever dare to venture out of town?
In the end, I'm looking for an agressive sound when I hit the accel but don't want to be drowned out 24/7 when I'm cruising, so will this setup work for me?

If its too loud, your too old! But with it run out the back it will not be that loud. I have the same setup under the door and it's quiet and easy on the ears while cruising, 45-90mph, Its nice.
cool cool
hmm.. well another question while we're here.. What exactly does the X-pipe do? lol.. I'm assuming it helps equalize pressure and even out the tone between the two pipes, but some more specific details would be nice :P
Does what you said, and it greatly helps scavenging. It helps equal out the exhaust pulses to reduce backpressure and increase velocity. Since the engine doesn't fire all one bank at a time, there are pressure differences, then "holes" left open in the exhaust flow. When the high pressure exits the pipe, it "pulls" low pressure atmosphric air into the pipe, and then the next high pressure area has to force that out as well. The x-pipe eliminates those holes, and the low pressure areas(backpressure) are not "allowed" in the pipe.
Not for me, but in 05 they started only putting 2 cats on so without any mufflers its very very loud.
my 07 with factory cats nomufflers and 2 pipes out the back is really not that loud in the cab anyway never heard it outside the truck so yhis summer comes longtubes and high flows i just hope that is loud enough
