CAI causes engine light to come on

hello all,

I recently installed an AEM cold air intake on my 04 FX4 and now my check engine light is on. What can or should be done to correct this?

I doubt the CAI, is the problem, what is the DTC you are getting?

I have not had the diagnostics read yet, I plan to do that today. I just put the CAI on this last weekend.

DTC and other questions

The diganostics came back with, "running lean". I had the code erased and it's hasn't come back on yet.

I assumed it was the CAI because the light wasn't on before I installed it this weekend.

A TUNE is something I'm going to look into, but unfortunatly I will need to wait a bit because of the $$$$$.

Thanks for the help.

Teefey, do you have a 2004+ body style, or the heritage edition?

If you have a 2004+ take off the after market intake and put the stock one back on.

x100

If you've got the 04+ truck (PCM) then yeah that intake is likely running your engine lean.. very bad idea.

Custom tuning is the only way to address this. If you can't afford tunes right now then put the stock intake back on and hold off on using the AEM until you can get tunes written that compensate for all that extra airflow.

depends on each idividual model-05-08 was as bad as 04-just cause cel doesn't come on doesn't mean it's not running lean

would a edge or any programer alone correct this problem or does it have to be customed tuned? i have a 06 that i just put the aem on and now im paranoid about running lean. is there a sure way to tell with out a cel or diagnostic test?

Hey, c'mon guys..

It's all about what's either cheaper or looks pretty.

Running the engine lean is no big deal as long you got a good price or it looks sweet.

Rock On!

Hey Tex, just wonderin are u a **** to everyone, or just the ones that aren't as smart as you? Im new to this forum and ive been searching these CAI threads to try and figure out if i should bother with one or not, and i notice i always see your name with some ****head reply under it. Sorry we're not all as smart as you when it comes to this stuff, you see thats why most of us are here to try and learn, and talk to people with the same issues. why are you here?
