Glasspacks, Bullets, etc.

I am very new here and just made an account about 10 minutes ago. I have been reading threads for quite some time and I have a few questions.

1. Many people on this site have a Flowmaster, Magnaflow, or true dual exhaust. I never hear any talk of a $40 glasspack. Is there a reason why no one ever buys them?
2. I'v been looking at some of the things on summmitracing.com, and iv also heard the sound of the dynomax bullets. Are those glasspacks?
3. I just wanna know why everyone buys $500 exhausts when you can get a decent sounding glasspack from a local shop.

Any info on this stuff would be great.

its because glasspacks sound like poop at high rpms. sure they are loud, but they sound way to ricey for me.

me and my buddy chopped off my muffler and clamped a thrush glasspack in. It is loud and deep. I have the 5.4 and it sounds great a nice v8 sound.
Buckles-I dont know why you think they sound bad, have you heard one on the 5.4 v8? It is loud and deep and doesnt sound ricey at all.
BTW i got the glasspack from my friend for free, so it was definetly worth it. For now it will stay on till i get money for a real exhaust.

dynomax bullet is actually classified as a race muffler, and not a glasspack. There is no glass beads in it.

sound clips of my bullet in my sig.

I have true duals with glasspacks. Really it is pretty quiet, has a nice tuned tone to it. If they blew out tomorrow I would replace them with more of the same, they have been on for about 7 months and they still sound the same as day one. They do get louder the longer you drive from the heat, but the next time you start it after they cool down you are back to where you started. I did keep the stock cats in place and just ran the duals from there, and have no crossover. The truck isn't as eager to downshift for hills, and seems to lug better, so I am happy with what power I gained.

BTW my 2.25" Thrush Magnum glasspacks were $26 apiece at the local parts store.

I used to have one on my Ranger, yeah that sounded ricey. All a fart can is for the compact car crowd is a fancy chrome plated glasspack with an obsenely large outlet. Really glasspacks have no business on anything with more or less than 8 cylinders. Perfect muffler for a V-8 though IMO.

That's exactly the route my friend took. True duals with 18" glasspacks and tips (no crossover) on his '00 5.4L. Fairly loud and very nice rumble.

I have been really happy with my true duals using glasspacks, i think they sound better than a lot of mufflers that i have heard. i have to agree that they shouldnt be ran on anything less than 8 cylinders. But i wouldnt trade mine for any muffler, and they were 16 bucks a pop!!

I hate glasspacks because of that retarded cackle on decelerations and on my true dual 302 they sounded like crap.So i cut that crap out and dumped after some high flow cats and that sounds amazing.
