Guttin the cat

Need help. Have a 98 Expedition 4.6l 4x4 and I need the cats gutted. I have another Y pipe wich I plan to use to pass emissions. I want to gutt the cats out of the spare Y pipe I have so I can bolt them on and off as I please.

Here's the problem. I can't really get at the cats towards the Y of the y pipe. 90 degrees makes it hard to shove a pipe down it's throat. Any Ideas? Firecrackers? LOL!

Anything would help at this point.

Hes right you wont like it, and your gains will be minimal if nothing at all, most cats these days are so much better than gen 1 cats. If you are hell bent on doing it you could cut the cat in half around the seam and removethe block and reweld it or cut the cats off the pipe knock the blocks out an reweld the cats to pipes. Thats probably dumbest thing I have said yet but its what I would do if I didn't want cats anymore, aside from using a new y pipe and using only 1 cat.

Okay, now I have to ask why. The thing comes with 4 cats like a mustang. How many stangs you hear ripping down the road with a sweet exhaust note? Chances are, they pulled that garbage H pipe out and put in an off road H pipe in to eliminate the cats.

Both 4.6L engine, Both have quad cats and to make it worse, mine's a Y pipe....How could this possibly be a bad idea? Oh yeah, I installed a flow master cat back on it too. Biggest scam in the world yet. It's so quite I swear to god the F'rs at Flowmasters should've been shot when they designed that trash.

If it's a bad idea, I need to know why before I destroy a perfectly good Y pipe.

If you have a spare Y pipe. Y not just have one with NO cats at all and 1 with cats for when you need them?

That's exactly what I want to do. The problem I'm having is still gutting the cats out of one of them. The extra Y pipe is a factory Ford one with the stock cats in just like mine......

yeah the downpipe is wat has the cat in it. i had this down pipe made to replace the cats. it just goes down under the truck ill put P and a D on the pipes so you know witch is witch. but yeah prob 40 bucks will be good and ull get all your money back when you take your stock cats back to a muffler shop and you'll get 40-50 bucks for them. it made a little sound diff. but i also chaged mufflers at the same time so i donno. made it smell better my muffler shop made these for me and he did a very good job. they come with o2 bungs and my stock flanges are on the pipe ull like these pipes. i looked all over Ebay for down pipes and just got mine made.

Sorry Phil6608, I read that a bit to quick. When ever your ready Shifty_85, let me know and I'll pick it up from you. I don't really get what you have shifty, isn't it a Y pipe? Not to sure what a down pipe is. My Y pipe has the all 4 cats welded into place. If they are a down pipe that replaces them on both sides, Do I have to weld it? There are no flanges between the cats and pipes. A pic would help but I already tried to post one here and no luck again. Either way, I'm taking them

I must be thinking of something different as usual. I can't seem to PM you my info so just email me, gtagger@gmail.com and I'll give you a shout from there.

Your truck will stink like a 70's muscle car if you remove the cats.
