removing exhaust

Im taking off the exhaust from the manifolds back. i cant take out the pipe from behind the y-pipe. i thought i could just pull it out but it wont budge...heres a pic of what im talking about

but then i saw something on the side of the pipe and dont know what its for

Also this is a custom exhaust that was put on before i got the truck so im not sure if this is part of the stock system or something that was put on at the shop. there was a u-bolt over it which i already took off

will this come straight off if i keep pulling at it or is there something else i have to do?

Im not sure what that little nub is other than to align the pipe, thats pretty much all it can be used for. If the exhaust was put on by someone else they may have clamped it down pretty hard crimping it wich even with the clamp off could make it almost impossible to take of. Take a flat screwdriver or a punch and work it around the edges with some good taps to try and get it to back off of there. If that dont work all you can do is cut it, which you probably dont want to do because then it will be short. It should come off though with some work.

I did the same you did, mines not a custom system but it still had the same u-bolt thingy with what i think is some kind of weight attached to it. I didnt use a left so i had crawl under there to unbolt everything but i didnt see whatever was in your 2nd picture... by the way mine didnt move at all so careful not to damage enything i pulled it out with a chain and 4wheeler

There's a nub, about the size of a button, welded to the male side of the pipe that fits into a matching slot on the female side. To separate the two sides, you must twist or rotate the pipe about 30 degrees in order for the nub to slide out of it's channel. Squirt it down with PB Blaster first. Makes it a lot easier!

did you unbolt the hangers or are you just trying to slide it out? if you havent try unbolting the hangers this should make it much easier. i had some problems taking mine off too but a bottle of pb blaster and soe time later it came of.

start the truck and let the exhaust get warm (caution dont be an idiot)
