Cool Long tube headers

Ok it is a dumb question but. Will headers made for a 5.4l block fit a 4.6l block. I woudl think the ports are the same but you never know. I was lookign for a place to email dynatech but can't seem to find anything.

they will fit the 4.6 head as both heads are identical, however, they probably will not clear under the truck as the 4.6 has a shorter deck height.

I had Neal's 5.4 Shorties on my 4.6. As the 5.4 is a taller deck they hang a bit lower. The passenger side was very close to the block at the collector and I had to hammer/massage the exhaust to fit. I cannot vouch for automatic tranny clearance as it is wider than the manual that I have. When you contact them ask for the clearance at the engine block where the tranny bolts up. FWIW anything can be made to fit with the proper tools. I find the blue tipped hammer very useful.

I suspect that they would not. The engine sits lower in the frame on a Mustang. This means that the horizontal plane at which the headers follow towards the rear would be higher than the F-150 and that would make the headers contact the truck frame.

Compared to a 5.4 truck, each collector would sit .8" lower and .8" closer to the center of the truck, I would think it would get pretty dicey for clearance. If you know or can find someone with the headers you want but on a 5.4 you can check to see if there's that much additional clearance available. Be careful of looking at the same trans too though, most 4.6s are probably running the 4R70W and any 5.4 with a tow package I think gets a 4R100, don't know how much those trannies vary in width...
