i agree, make a good personal investment. A lifetime warranty sounds like a damn good product to me. K&N FTW

There's a reason Troyer backs AF1 and Magnaflow so much...

Running lean is not something to just shrug about and continue on... "Yeah I'm running lean, but I saved $50!"

Exactly.. Like the old Fram commercials said, " Pay me now, or pay me later..". or something along those lines.. LOL

Save $50 now, ohhhhh it's so pretty... or pay $3,500 later for a new engine, or just write your nice truck off, because you've burned the friggin' pistons. Made the heads resemble swiss cheese.

"I only got a CEL after running this intake for 50k miles? WTF?!"

WTF indeed.

Please, no one, any of y'all.. don't replace a major component on your engine based on looks or price. If you must make modifications do it based on what's best, what's gonna help your performance without damaging the thing. So what if it's a few $ more?

F150's rock, mine does, yours does. Don't wreck it for saving $50.

As far as intake air temps, why do y'all not understand that something BLACK, as in black plastic, will absorb and hold heat more readily and longer that a stainless steel surface with a reflective surface? It's basic thermodynamics, although it's also pretty much a moot question with these things as the air being drawn in has very little time to absorb any heat from the tube that carries it. The issue performance-wise between intake kits has more to do with the volume of air and the laminar vs. turbulent flow.

A stainless steel or chromed intake tube will have lower air temps by it's very nature vs. a black anything. Not by enough to make much difference, it's the amount of air and how it's being delivered that matters on these engine.

orly? Then why did Mr. Troyer himself tell me that the plastic K&N was a better choice over the reflective/metal AEM Brute Force because the material used would be cooler?

ok

ok i want to buy 1 4 my truck and have the same questions between these 2 and now i think the AF1 is the one

the AF1 is better than the K&N ... and the $$ its worth it.. thanks a lot

my truck is a 2007 5.4 FX4 and i dont have a clue about this stuff on perfomance but i think the 3" is the right size for my truck ??

and the 3.5" fits if u have a chip or performance tune up or something like that ??

I just wish there was an independent evaluation of the intakes, other than Troyer's evaluation and testing.

LOL

No idea.. I bought mine through Troyer's site back in March '07, I didn't even know about any member discounts from here, just did some reading and research and wanted that intake. The price there was $249, I think I remember seeing it for $280 on autoanything.com, $270 or so on some other site.

And as far as black plastic intake tubes vs. polished stainless steel.. Honestly, it's more about the design, the shape, than the color or material.

And the only issue besides small differences in HP is whether you'll lean your engine with a given intake. I trust what Troyer says because he's been working on F150's for over 15 years now, has tried and dyno'd every possible component out there and recommends the AF1. It's not like the AF1 is something exotic that costs much more than any other. Price-wise it's very competitive. Prettier than some others? Depends what you think looks nice. I personally dig how when I pop the hood people say.. "WHOA!".. LOL

I WOULD go with an enclosed intake if I did a lot of muddin', but I don't.

The only place I've seen the AF1 for sale is at Troyer. It looks like autoanything.com doesn't sell them anymore.
