Cold air intake and mods

I have a 01 F150 5.4L with a K&N air intake system. I was wanting to know if I can use the original filter housing of the truck to cover the K&N filter to get cooler air from the fender inlet. There is a mod to take out the silencer to get better air flow. And this would help in the summer time so, I'm not getting hot air from the engine.

no you cant use the box from the stock setup with your kit..... I would either buy a k&n panel filter and go back to your stock setup. Or, go with a Volant,S&B, or Outlaw setup and sell the one you have....

I had the same issue so I sold the K&N FIP and went back to my stock intake ube and did the "gotts intake mod" and it works better than the K&N FIPK did

That's the mod I was thinking of. I wanted to see if that would slide over the K&N filter. Maybe keep both halves and modify the second piece so it would slide over the filter as well. Is the K&N filter to big for the housing? I bought my truck with the K&N system already on the truck and don't have the original.
