AF1 heat sheild help!
Instalation was a breeze but that dang heat shiled has me puzzled! What do I do with the small rub blue piece...does it just sit in that hole and not get mounted to anything?

The X's are the ones with the rubber grommets and the o is the blue rubber piece. That blue piece doesnt get mounted down correct?

I used the 2 holes with the rubbers. The third hole closest to the fender is where I put the blue thing. Then I used the longer screw that they give you instead of the existing one. They say don't tighten the screw into the blue unit too much or you can crush it thus defeating the purpose of it. And I think its purpose is to reduce vibrations.
Did anyone find that the filter rubs on the underside of the hood on that felt like material?

If you are installing from stock, I believe there is an existing screw you have to remove and then install the blue unit and then the screw. On mine they all line up. it would be the one in your picture that is the 0. I hope that helps.
Y'all are correct that the little blue cushion thang goes beneath the shield. It's a vibration damper.
The only problem I ever had with my AF1 was the first couple of weeks I got a bad humming sound (vibration) when in gear with my foot on the brake.
Turned out I hadn't seated the two metal posts or plugs completely through the rubber grommets. Used a touch of silicon grease on 'em and they popped right though, problem solved.

I did not understand the set up for the blue washer either. I assumed that my 07 must be different and did not have the mounting hole. So...I made one and ran the bolt from under the metal through the washer and put the nut on the heat shield side. It appears that was not needed but it is very secure and eliminates alot of excess movement. Worked well for me

Same boat for me on my '07. The hole for the blue thing is over a few inches from where the AF1 hole is so I just marked where the hole should be and found the right size bit and drilled one then hit it with black paint. Then installed the blue vibration dampner into the new hole and used a long zip tie to string though the shield hole....blue thing....hole I drilled.....then the tricky part is weazeling the zip tie over and coming up through the hole that IS there (put a little bend in the zip tie tip and use a small flathead placed in the existing hole to persuad the zip tie up as you push). Then sinch it down tight and cut the extra. This was easier than somehow getting the provided mystery bolt attached to a nut through there for me since there is only a small space below. This is BlackDawg engineering at its finest and didn't even have to use duct tape.
