99 4.2 & cats

Im looking to change the cats out in my 99 f150 with 4.2 rather than cutting them out or gutting them due to the check engine light/02 sensor readings. Does this thing happen to have 2 cats (or similar) on each side after the header? Or does it just appear that way? Thanks.

If it looks like it has 2 on each side it probably dose!
Should be 1 big one and 1 smaller one on each side.
That's how the 4.6 and 5.4 are.
The most popular way to go is cut out all 4 and put 2 high flow cats back in there.

Just put 1 high flow cat on each side. And put your 02 sensors back as close to were they were as you can.
You will be amazed at the difference!

That what I did to my 99 4.2. I also had a fake flowmaster installed. It does not give a code to have this set up. It will still even pass a smog inspection. I want to put a tip at the end. I am not sure what kind of tip size or cut I want to go with. Good luck Ben

Thumbs up

Hey I have a 07 4.2 litre v6 and I cut my cats out on my truck there's 2 cats towards the back and it has 2 resinators/collectors up towards the exhaust manifolds. If u do end up cuttin out the cats you can buy spark plug fowlers from your local parts store they work as a spacer for the o2 sensors so it just reads enough exhaust gas to keep the check engine lights off!
