if you want really loud, dont even consider any type of mufflers that are suggested.

Start with your setup that you said you could get for $150. True dual straights off of the back converters. Use 2" or 2.25" pipe. Also, get some 4" or bigger dual tips, they will definetly add some echo out back.

I have this setup on my 98 4.6 and yes it will set off car alarms. Has a great cackle and definetely turns heads. If you still want louder, start pulling cats off.

Yea I will get true duals.. 2.5" pipe back to the bed, then 3" pipe to the tips.. I would take the cats off, but I dont want to mess wit hthe sensors and ive heard I would loose low end power/torque messing with the cats? What can I do to the cats?

You replace all 4 with 2 high flow cats, not sure if thats what you meant. You go from 4 to 2 cats and those are high flows

Hi, I have had Duals from the stock y back, since I have owned my 98 5.4l. About 2 weeks ago I cut out my main cats, and it is definately louder now. When I first drove it away from the muffler shop I thought it was too loud, but now it seems quiet again. If I could do it all over again, no cats, and glass packs all the way. I can still keep it fairly quiet in the morning, and rap it out when I want to. Good luck, post some sound clips when you are done. FYI I didn't lose any torque, but definately gained some HP!!

My friend who is an old Vietnam veteran would be working on the trucks over there and the newbs would help him out. So he would go ask them to find some new spark plugs to put in. The newbs just couldn't figure out where the heck to get spark plugs for those diesels!

Actually some old diesels (1940's-1950's) would start on gas to get warmed up then switch to diesel. It can look kind of goofy, on one side you have the carb and distributer with plug wires and plugs, and on the other you have injection pump with all the lines, filters and injectors.

I have always wanted to go to find a new kid at a parts store and ask for a set of spark plugs for a International 450 diesel and see what they do when they are listed.

LOUD AS A FORD WILL GET WITHOUT NEW HEADERS!!!> my 2 buddies, one has '97(4.6) and other '01(5.4) 4x4 both are lifted. >>>Cut the cats off! run headers to an X Pipe(makes it deeper) then to 2 flowmaster mufflers(for mustang cobra) nothing going outta mufflers just dumped in front of the rear tire! vibrates the cab, cannot talk to the passenger. if ur in the back seat, its even loder. the 5.4 will make u cringe when it takes off and ur in it.NO LIE THIS IS AS LOUD AS IT GETS!! i'm not sure bout o2 sensors, i believe they were drilled and inserted into pipe coming off header. 4.6 even got 30 more miles to a tank of gas adverage and not one problem with sensors, the 5.4 engine light came on after 2000 miles but no problems before it came on or after. i ride with them up and down the mall parking lot and he sets alarms off. if he comes to school late, somebody that gets there before him that locks there car usually has to go cut there alarm off before class.

if you feel like spending, Longtube headers, Hi-Flow cats, loud *** mufflers liek Cherrybomb Extreme or Flowmaster 10 series.

more affordable, Hi-Flow cats, mufflers or no mufflers.

if thats not loud enough, well.... tie up megaphones to your tips

ive got a 1983 ford F150, with a 95 351 rolling winsor. i cut off the old mufflers and put on cherrybomb glass packs. it has no cats, no sensors. with these mufflers its basically straight pipe. the glass packs take out the dirty high notes. this sounds amazing but i want it louder. but to do that i need new headers. any suggestions? i dont care if their not street legal.

You want loud? Take out all the cats, run an xpipe, and two dynomax bullets or other loud muffler. Dump or 45 out the back, should be loud as hell.
