Got a Little Problem
Got a Little Problem
Hello,
One of the options that i am lookin into for Xmas is a K&N 77 series intake for my 4.6l 2004. THe problem comes in here: I have a dealership Lifetime Powertrain Warranty. The intake itself does not void the warranty, but if something was to happen to the engine and it had to do with the K&N intake, it would void the warranty and I would have to pay for repairs. I think that there is practically no way something could go wrong with it, but the warranty is pretty good. As of now I am at a crossroads with it....I was wonderin if you guys/gals had any takes on the matter or any opinions you would like to share.
Thanks,
Zane

IMO, I think you'll be OK. Like the programmers, when any warrenty work that needs to be done on the engine, the vehicle is returned to stock. With the Intakes, I would just take it off and put the stock intake back on. The dealership wouldn't be the wiser and it would be on them to prove that it was the intake that actually caused the issue. Chances are, they wouldn't even know it had been on.
I have a K&N Intake and haven't had any issues with it. Mine is really easy to take off and return to stock. I don't have an 04 or newer, but I don't think they would be too much of a pain to take off if needed.
The other option would be to clear it with the dealer first, some are good about allowing mods, others will try to get out of anything if they see a window of opportunity.

Read K&N's fine print, I'm positive they will pay for the repairs if a situation happens like this. I'm almost 100% they said their products will not void ANY warranty, and if so, they'll hook up. Ask them or read their website, they've hooked me up great with filter issues I've had. You shouldn't be scared to upgrade and void warranties.
My K&N comes off easy if needed, but like said before, this wont really be necessary. It also comes with a lifetime warranty, and it is CARB approved for California and 50 state smog legal. AND it sounds awesome, adds lots of power, and is a K&N, quality that lasts forever. What more could you want?
Good Call Blue20004x4, I just called K&N and said if something was to happen, I am to call them and they will call the dealership and they will take care of it. I think I am going to settle with the K&N 77 Series.
Thanks for your thoughts,
Zane
