Edelbrock CARB Choke problem

Need some help with my Edelbrock carb on my 84' 150.
Not exactly sure what model number it is, but it is a 2 plane, 4 barrel with manual choke. Possibly model number 1405* (I'll try to find the number on the carb tomorrow).

So normal routine when I get in to start it up in the morning:
Kick the pedal down once to set the choke.
Crank it over and let it run for about 10-15 seconds while the engine idles slightly high for the choke.
Kick the pedal down again to get the choke to go off and let it idle at the correct RPMs.

Well after I have it warmed up nice and good, once I hit the pedal again and accelerate, it just resets the choke again and gives me high idle rpms again. I can usually kick the pedal again while in motion or have to stop and kick it off to get it back to regular idle... but as soon as I apply throttle again, the choke turns back on. It will do this with the engine at it's hottest, so I know its not a matter of the engine not being warmed up enough yet.

I took the air cleaner off the other day to look at just what was happening in the carb when it would do this.
The front plate (which I assume does the choke) will be closed off when in choke position, causing the high idle. I can snap the throttle on the carb and that will open up that plate slightly and bring it down to normal idle speeds. But as soon as I touch that throttle at all again, it sets the choke again, just as it would if I was to set it first thing trying to start it (pressing the pedal down).
So basically I can't keep the choke from setting itself again after I kick it off.

Nothing seems to be sticking or anything, I just don't know why its grabbing the choke linkage again after I've already kicked it off.
I can't stand it idling like this, I've been burning a hell of a lot of gas since its started doing this.
I've been searching and can't find anything.
Not sure what I could adjust since everything is working as it should, other then the choke setting itself again once I press the throttle.. after having already kicked it off.
Any help would be realllllly appreciated. Thanks!!!

Easy fix would to simply get a choke cable and mount it under the dash somewhere. That why there is no issue with linkage sticking.

You may want to check the return spring tension and make sure that it has enough pressure to pull the linkage all the way back to the throttle stop. Also make sure there is no binding in the linkage.
