Muffler or No?

I have a 2000 F150 with the 5.4L I first put on a cheap summit catback and it helped over factory a little. Next I put on a magnaflow catback and again it helped over the summit but it is not nearly loud enough. If I just take off the muffler how much will that help. What else could I do to make it louder besides long tubes (which I'd like to do in the future) and remove the cats because no shop will do that.

I know hearing them in your other post made me post this Lol. So do you still have cats and stock manifolds? If thats how yours sound with no mufflers then I'm going to the shop tomorrow.
What do you think guys go tomorrow and have the muffler taken off and replaced with a Y pipe? OR have then cut the whole mid-pipe part off and run true duals? I mean cut off the stock Y right after the cats, run back into an X pipe and dual it out the back with no muffler?????

Yep, stock cats and manifolds all I had them do was rip off that huge muffler, throw on a 4 inch chrome rolled tip and called it a day. 100 bucks out the door

Unless you're really concered with performance I'd just keep the Y-pipe. Plus the X-pipe might add a little more rasp as there known for doing. Up to you sure you'll like it either way

magnafarts, they sound too quiet, no ***** in the higher RPMs.

if you want to hear it get a flowmaster super44 or 10 series, or you could just run no muffler.

I'm having a hard time finding a custom exhaust shop around here (columbus ohio) found one and called them and explained my situation. I mentioned true duals and he said no you have to leave the cats on. I said I know this and I said after the cats. He said it has like 4 cats and with that it still wont be that loud.

trust me, get true duals if you're going to straight pipe it.
Ive had the Y pipe duals and the true duals with no mufflers. There is no comparrison, true duals sound much better, deeper, and louder.

Called that mad hatter the guy recomended keeping the Y and just running one straight pipe out which I didnt want. Then he said an X-pipe would make it quieter. Anyways he quoted me $175 to cut off the Y, add an X and run the pipes back to my current magnaflow catback (with no muffler) What do you guys think. Everything I heard is you should run an X-pipe (which I did on my mustang and it sounded great) also I dont know what size pipeing hes going to run I know my catback pipeing is 2 1/2..
