Has anyone wrapped their pipes???

For the past two trucks I had been wanting to heat wrap the exhaust pipes. The only problem is that two vendors have told me whats the point and that it would not be safe, being that chemicals and water from the street would be absorbed by the wrap and may catch fire. I don't know bout you guys but everytime I wash my truck I rinse the chasis and wheel wells. Has anyone ever done this? I think it would look really good and it's something different. What do you guys thing. I would wrap from cat to tip.

there is no danger to doing it. I did it about 4 years ago b4 I bought my long tubes, it worked just fine, made things a lot cooler and twice as quiet.

I think he's talking about his actual exhaust pipe, not his manifolds.

Yeah, i meant the actual exhaust from cats to tips. Would there be a differnece though they both face the same conditions.

I do and have done this on at least two of my cars. There is non-asbestos based wrapping material available, and it is simple to install. Applying fibrous wrap tape to most exhaust manifolds can be a pita, but you can use non-oxidizing Engine paint or lacquer silver coating to coat the manifold surfaces.
I usually get my wrap from J.C. Whitney, but there are other sources available. There is little "performance gain" from wrapping behind the cat converter, but if properly done will protect the pipes in rusty areas.

If you do always specify "non-asbestos" fibrous wrap tape.
