I don't really want to spend a lot of money on my truck. I was thinking about getting a flowmaster muffler and having the exhaust shop weld it in place of the stock muffler. Will this have any effect on my gas mileage? Also, what muffler would be recommended for me, I don't really want the exhaust to be loud or drone on the highway. Just a deep rumble. What should I pay to have the work done? Anybody have any other suggestions?

well i just bought the new flo 44 and the drone is not noticeable and the its not ear blasting, and it has a nice rumble . i paid 85 and some change for it at summit and paid like right at 100 for the shop to ADD a little bit of pipe and weld everything together.

as far as the gas mileage i cant help ya, mine only gets 12-14 as it is, it aint gonna get worse i promise.

 

Super 44 is probably the best Flowmaster out there. I say get a single in/out offset inlet centered outlet 2.5" and go to the shop and they should install it for $50 - $100.

 

I think I just found a used Magnaflow kit for $180 that has 8000 miles on it. I have the Magnaflow Magnapacks on my mustang and I've been very happy with it. I can't pass up this deal.

 

the magnapacks are the only magnaflow muffler i would ever even consider. the rest just dont put out enough sound for me

 

i have never used anything but the 20 dollar glasspacks from autozone and this new 44 from FLO, so i cant really compare, but you pay 180 for this kit that is used, whos to say that they are in good condition, why did the person take it off there vehicle anyway, i dont know about you but if im gonna pay a couple hundred bucks to have an exhaust put on my truck its gonna be a good one and it aint comin off. but even if you did buy the used kit, your gonna have to pay to have that welded on the truck as well and final cost prolly 350 and the muffler inplace as the stock maybe 200 muffler+labor.

 

Not true, the kit is full bolt on. You don't have to weld an exhaust on for it to not leak. I've had the magnaflow on my mustang for 4 years and no leaks and it's not welded. I can bolt this exhaust on in my driveway. I got to pick it up today and I gotta say, I'm just amazed how nice the exhaust looked. Almost new looking. The guy is lowering his F150 and the tail pipes won't work so he went with Magnaflow's side exit exhaust. He said he could have gone with dumps but the side exhaust looked so clean on his. I'm very greatful for such a great deal. I'd post a pic but I don't know how on this forum.

 

well i do say, you cant beat bolt on, and i would do that myself, its cheap and i guess efficient. and i would like to hear a sound clip if possible once you get it on and going.

 

im also in the same situation. i have a 2004 4.6l v8 newbody style i want to just add a muffler also, but i do not want it as loud at idle but would still like to get the most performance and a little sound. or should i just get the 44

I'm very happy with the condition of the kit, the install, and the way it sounds. You can't even hear it once overdrive kicks in on the highway. Here's a sound clip of my mustang for comparison. Both were revved to approx 3,000 RPM's.
