K&N Intake & Body Lift ? -

I picked up a K&N Air Intake off of Ebay for a good price, it was used. The actual filter had a few scuffs on it when I got it. I had to mod it to make it fit my Screw because I have a 3" BL on it.

Well, the K&N filter has rubbed on the metal plate where the old air filter box used to sit. So now the filter is showing some wear and tear. I'd like to swap out the K&N air filter with a different one, maybe an Air Rade or a AF1 filter.

But is there maybe a cheaper one that anyone would recommend that would fit on the K&N Intake? What do you guys think?

Once I replace the filter, I think I'll put some weather stripping over the end of the metal plate, hoping that's going to work...

im not an expert but for my own curiosity, why does the intake not fit right with the 3 in body? I am putting a 2-3 in body, intake, throttle body, etc....
but as far as the filters, you can go to autozone and just check those out, but i would think that you would have a fun time tryin to find one to fit right.
kind of like bolting a toyota tranny to a dodge hemi engine, it can be done with the right equipment and so forth.

For whatever reason, my reply didn't come through. As far as the filter goes, I would think that most any filter off of another intake would fit, but then again I could be wrong. Oh well, I guess I'll have to measure it out.

The intake didn't fit because when you lift the body og the truck, the engine sits 3" lower. The stock AI has some flex in it to allow for this, aftermarket AI's are usually a solid piece. Modding it is real easy though, all I did was not put one of the pieces of hose on the K&N AI to shorten it up. It fits great other than the rubbing on the metal plate where the old air filter box use to be.

Got any pics jk007 ???
Hmmm....must be a k&n thing?? Any way you can rotate the intake upward or fab a new bracket to hold it up?

I also wondered what would happen to my AF1 when i installed the BL. All i had to do was loosen the nut for the and rotate it up. There was enough adjustment on the AF1 bracket.
With BL installed...i have about 1/2 inch under it. I plan to make a shroud for it or box the whole thing in sometime.

You've also got an 06, not an 03... I'm sure I'm not the only one who's modded there's to make it work with their 97-03 F150's.

I'm gonna make my way out to the garage shortly and I'll see if I can get a pic and show you guys. I'm chatting in the suspension forum write now and may have to take a pic of a skid plate while I'm out there. I'm lazy... Besides Grey's is coming on soon j/k

Alright, this is what I did. First of all, when I got the intake there weren't any instructions with it. So I grabbed some online through K&N's website. The instructions say right on there that this may not work with a body lift.

So, I took the orange rubber fitting out between the plastic tube and the MAF, and just connected those.

I did this because when I lifted the truck, the metal plate that the OEM Filter casing sat on was now 3" higher.

If I would have left the fitting on there, the filter would sit up higher, it would rub worse that it has, and I'm not sure I would even be able to close my hood. Here's a pic of the filter I am looking to replace.

You with me?

Ya i see. Are you sure you can't just rotate the whole intake assembly up enough to clear w/o hitting the hood??
If not measure what you need and try to find one. Cheack into the S&B filters.

Yes, I'll try to mess with it this weekend. I guess I just assumed that the intake needed to be modded since the directions said that it may not work with a BL. I'll grab the measuring tape and see what's up?

S&B filters, never heard of them? They are decent huh? I'll have to google them and see if I can get any reviews on them.

Thanks.
