Roush off road sound level?

I've been on the fence for a while as to what I want for an exhaust system. I currently have a magnaflow in place of the stock muffler, and I have heard flowmaster and magnaflow exhaust systems, but wonder if the roush off road system is really at all if any louder than these systems. I'm looking at the dual rear exit kit that most of you here have.

Any input will be appreciated.

Have any sound clips / videos ?

It has a nice deep tone. It's loud if you want it to be, and can be quiet if you want it to be as well, just depends on how much foot you put into it.

I used to have a Magnaflow SI/SO system and the Roush Off-road is much deeper and doesn't sound as tinney to me as the Magnaflow. It's an excellent quality system as well.

So for normal driving it isn't loud at all? I do mostly highway driving and I have a magnaflow 18" currently, and don't have the annoying drone. Just want to make sure I get what I want, but not what I don't.

I also work nights, and don't need to wake up the neighbors. ;)

Well, under normal driving it's not loud per se, but others will definitely notice it. However, it is loud on cold start-up until the rpms drop, so if you have picky neighbors they might get annoyed late at night. There is a little drone at around 2,000 rpms, but not bad.

Yeah, the 2000 rpm level is common with any aftermarket exhaust and (so called) drone, but what others call drone may not be drone to our ears, and vice versa. I can hear my magnaflow muffler cruising and I think its sound is fine, but my dad is like What's the hell is wrong with your muffler?

My highway driving is all below 2000 rpm, so I should be good.

I've only heard Roush exhausts on a couple of Mustangs.. they sound awsome on those, I'm sure it's not the off-road type though..

The Roush's are made by Borla, what I've got, but for some reason the Roush prices seem to be a little lower than Borla.. not sure how that works.. LOL

The borla SI/SO I've got is pretty deep at cold start up, like Cope said, but not really "loud" once warmed up and just cruising.. though at WOT it freakin' ROARS.. LOL

:beers:

That's what I'm after, I want my truck to sound like a truck should. ;)

Copenhagen848 10-20-2007 09:16 PM

It's a very nice system in both sound and quality, I guarantee you won't regret it :beers:

I'd sure hit the different sites, prices on Roush and Borla.. From what I've seen Roush is maybe $30 -$50 less than Borla for the same damn system.. I'd have bought a Roush if I'd known this back in the day.. last March.. LOL

One other thing... when I first put mine on I thought it was 100% better sounding than stock but still not quite what I was looking for.. almost too quiet I thought.. gradually it's gotten louder, deeper.. it's been the same since about 1,200 miles on it and I think it's perfect!!

I see guys on here who take off cat-backs after a couple hundred miles because it's not loud enough.. gotta give it time to settle.. break in... whatever... it WILL get louder up to as far as it's gonna get...

Plus there's some increased mpg, I gained about 1.8 mpg highway with just the cat-back..

Here's where I'd be buying.

Heck, my biggest concern, if I cam call it that, is that it'll be too loud, but I am leary of the Roush legal version because I think it'll be too quiet!

I'm confident I'll be more than happy when I do get it, and I am well aware the kit is top notch and well made. It being made of 304 stainless is a big enough selling point, since I've welded stainless for a living before I got this aircraft gig. ;)

Shrkbait 10-20-2007 11:23 PM

Where can I get a good price on the Borla SI/DO? From what I have been able to find its like $750-$800, where the Roush is $575 or so. Are they really the same?

Stealth 10-20-2007 11:26 PM

Click on the woodhouse link. The Roush kit I want is only $430.

TexEdition 10-21-2007 12:09 AM

Stealth, just be wary of any cat-back you think is loud, or loud enough, when ya first get it installed.. they'll ALL get louder after some miles..

And Shrkbait, yeah, the Roush's are made by Borla.. no idea how they sell for less, but they do.. exact same systems as far as I can tell.. Maybe it's sales volume, I don't know...

I'd definitely get Roush if I was doing it again..

:beers:
