i have a 89 f150 w/ the 4.9 liter. i am looking to re-do the exhaust... can this motor produce a sound like a v8 cause it has a larger displacement? or does it still sound like a 6?

also, do you have any recomendations? high flow cat? flows? mac? gibson? would bringing the pipes out before the rear tire change anything?

note: i dont really wanna change the header...

NO. A v6 is a v6... They all sound like crap IMO. If you want it to sound like a ve then get a v8!

 

ok, a simple "no" would have worked... i didnt know if the sound came from the number of cyl. or if it came from the displacement... if it came from displacement, the 4.9 liter, inline 6... would then be able to produce an exhaust note similar to a 4.6 liter v8.

in either case... does anyone have any suggestions? or sound clips?

i have si/do flowmaster 40's... i like it a lot. cat back. it has a really good growl at low rpm, like going through neighborhood or parking lot. on the freeway its almost un-noticable.

Merely a suggestion. I've heard several V6's with Magnaflow and they all sounded as as a V6 could ever hope to.
