Maf

Again I am relatively new to this site and the idea of modifying anything, so bear with me....

If I am looking to add a air intake kit, what would the benefit, if any, be of:

- Upgrading the MAF
- changing throttle body (would this allow me to increase the intake size from the stock 3" intake)

I am going to add the intake kit but I want to make sure I do as much as possible, while I am in there....

Thanks in advance.

Steve

I should add that my truck is a 2003 4.6L Screw

Thanks again.

I did try to search it but did not really find any explanation of the MAF or throttle body and the benefit of changing either of these

with a stock engine, the cost of a tb/maf would be worthless. Get an xcal II tuner. The tb will give you more off the line response, the maf will only really help you if you have the need for it, like sucking a lot more air than stock.

First of all, don't waste any money on a TB spacer..

Second, your maf sensor is just fine as is..

You'll get a nice increase in throttle response and some nice sounds from a 3" AF1 intake with no need for tuning or worries about running lean. Click on my photos for some pics of one of those installed on a 4.6L...

Like stated above, the MAF upgrade would help down the road for F/I. I did upgrade mine, you will have to retune your PCM with a larger MAF. I went with the OEM MAF from a Lightning. I am researching F/I options down the road so I did it now just to have one less thing to cover.

Thanks for your responses.

1. What is F/I? Fuel Injection?
2. TexEdition, what made you remove the AF1 and return to stock? I assumed this based on the dates your photos (in your gallery) were posted.

Thanks

Do I need to change the throttle body if I want to go with a AF1 Intake 3.5"? I know I will also need to get a tune... Just need to know if a) i need to change the TB b) is it worth going to 3.5"

I returned it to stock for a trip to the dealer (15k service) just out of being overly cautious about what the dealer might think.. lol.. I put the AF1 back on right after that... Actually it wasn't so much what the dealer might say as much as I needed to get the inspection sticker and as far as I know there's no C.A.R.B. sticker for it yet.. not even sure if I need it here in Texas..

And anyway it was fun just switching the things back and forth.. LOL

Thanks TexEdition. At this point I am leaning toward a AF1 Intake and Troyer or VMP tunes. I have heard great thing about both. I will definitely post an update as soon as I make a decision and get it installed etc...

As I am alos thinking about getting a Magnaflow upgrade I may wait until the AF1 and exhasut are done before the tunes....

Thanks again for the help.

Steve
