Headers

I talked with a tech at Summit Racing and wanted a second opinion. First,he said that shorty headers would have a noticable performance increase, unless you had a highly modified engine. I asked about Dynomax Black Jack Headers, and he said to just tie them into my stock system and then put a muffler with dual outlets on it? Any thoughts? Thanks

agreed, less restriction. the more curves it has, the harder it is to get out.. that's why i hate intestines.. they're just too curvie.

Does anybody know of any long tubes for a 97 4.6 cause I can't find any? I was thinking get some shorties cause i'm mainly looking for the sound but i'd still like to get the ceramic coated. If no one knows of long tubes which would you choose between bbk and pace setter?

I have the pacesetters - I really don't see much difference between them and dyna teck visually. They fit good !

Whats so bad about them - never heard that before . Heard they are pretty good , wellI don't have any problems with there longtubes. Heavy duty compared to ODX's that have been know to break/crack.

The UD pullies made a little difference, But enough to notice during acceleration. I have no charging/ac problems at idle. The high flow cats are well worth it. The sound is much better, and they burn cleaner than the factory 4 cats.

well they are not stainless, so they will not last nearly as long, and I Had a set that cracked 4 times, then the 5th time, the collector cracked and fell completely off... I have heard that happening to many people, I guess you are luck.

You don't expect someone with $1200 headers to say a $300 header is as good, do you?

I'm not saying there isn't a quality difference, of course there is, but the PaceSetters should provide similar gains for a fraction of the cost. $1300 gets you half a used blower kit...

Shorties aren't nearly as bad as folks like to automatically throw out there either, its just that most aren't well designed. The main problem is in the ball and socket collector and shorties that dump all the tubes together right before the collector. A well designed shorty can make more power than a longtube, which due to the tube length are better at promoting torque. The Edelbrock shorties look like a very nice design, all the tubes are merged together before the collector.

I highly doubt that. I gained 0hp and 0tq from gibson shorties, put the long tubes on and gained 30hp and 35ftlbs...

Thanx for the info fella's I'll keep an eye on them - I just put those longtubes on - the trucks sitting in drive with a couple High flows (magnaflows) and Magnaflow muffler sitting in the front seat. I can't get the rest to fit right without a welder. Takin it to the shop. I have a 3" offroad pipe that came with - selling that prolly - I'm thinking I'll see more gains sticking with 2.5 pipe.

Like I said, you need a well designed shorty.....if I remember right the Gibson's dump all the tubes right into a ball and socket collector just like most of the others.....

I should have been clearer too, shorties have potential to produce more high end power, not a better curve overall, because of the shorter tube length. Similar to intake manifold runner length, header tube length dictates where in the powerband you get the best results.

Take a look at the Ford Racing shorty and the poor collector design.....

and the Edelbrock.....not as good as a typical longtube collector but far better than most shorties....

People get way too hung up on tube length and size when a poor collector design can have a much larger effect.

I'm curious to know for sure, was the Dynatech setup the only thing you did at the time or was a tuner or something else added. The results you give the headers credit for are far greater than typical so just want to make sure they were added on their own??
