Question Necessary to run a true dual set-up w/long tubes?

Im still unsure of what i am going to do with my exhaust. As it is right now, everything is OEM except i have a si/do flowmaster with 2.5" pipes. Headers are next, but i need to figure out a few things before i buy them.

I want to put on a set of the OBX long tube headers. Do i have to run 2 mufflers to make it a true dual setup with a crossover to get optimum performance?

What if i dont? Will it really make that much difference (performance/sound) if i run the headers into the y-pipe and into my si/do muffler?

Thanks for help in advance, the replies will be my deciding factor.

i just put a set on my truck and they are working great so far. the kits come with a y pipe if you want to run it with your current setup. mine goes through a y pipe then jumps to 3" and then through a 14" maggie. sounds bad a$$ in my opinion.

no, you can run long tubes with what ever kind of exhaust you want. but the most performance, as i've experienced them all, would be high flow cats, x pipe, and magnaflow muffler(s)
