I'm considering installing a 3" single catback type exhaust on my '00 F150 4x, w/ 5.4........my main goal is better MPG. Can anyone who has installed them on similar rigs comment on gains or non gains in MPG with these systems.

I have the same truck and installed magnaflow 15749 and MAYBE saw 1mpg if that. Don't expect much if any from it

 

'05 4.6l Supercrew.. I put on a Borla SI/SO cat-back and gained 1.8 mpg highway right away. Then put on an AF1 3" intake and got another 1 mpg highway... neither helps any in city driving as far as I can tell, just accept that as a cost of driving these trucks..

Just FYI, your mileage my vary.. LOL

 

I gained 1 mpg on a vacation trip with my si/so magnaflow catback. Trip was 15 hrs. Around town I dont think there are any savings.

 

I can buy a lot of gas for the extra expense of what one of these systems costs..........what a drag!

 

You would need to do a lot of driving for it to pay for it self. Most people dont get a cat back for gas mileage.
