Cats, dual exhausts, inspections, et al
I know it's been covered many many times here, and in fact I've spent the last few hours reading back posts.
But I have a couple questions I couldn't seem to find answers to.
Firstly, does anybody have picture of the factory cat converter setup and y-pipe that they can post up for me? As well as a couple pics of true duals with high-flow cats from underneath the truck?
Also, I was reading about Texas' emissions laws - it looks like very few counties require emissions testing. Nueces isn't one of them, but it appears they do do a visual inspection of the "Exhaust Emission System (beginning with 1968 models)". What I want to know is, how do they know how many cats are supposed to be on what vehicles? Wouldn't they simply check the cats to see if they're there? My reasoning is they wouldn't know the particulars of every vehicle that does through the shop for inspection, so they would simply pass an 01 F150 with two cats rather then 4.
Tax time is gonna be a fun time for me. I'm going to put on long tube headers, true duals, (if I can get away with it) high-flow cats and probably glass packs with a turn-down just before the rear axle. I love that glass pack sound. Miss it from my 68 Oldsmobile (which was exempt from emissions completely!), so I need to put it on my truck! I have till March to decide what parts/brands I'm going to get.
Thanks all!

If you check w/ the Tx. dept. of public safety they can tell you exactly what your vehicle requires to pass state inspection.I live in San Antonio and the last two years I had my truck inspected, the inspector never looked under the truck or the hood.If he did he would have found my high flows and my K&N cai.He was more concerned w/my rear license plate light and my wiper blades than anything else.I guess its because emissions testing is almost non existant in Tx.but I bet its on the way, just like in CA.We have ozone alert days in S.A. almost daily between AUG. and Sept.I say enjoy the fact that we dont have to contend w/ emissions testing like the residents of CA.because when it does get here inspection stickers will probaly jump to $75.00-$100.00 and thats if you pass inspection.Good luck.
Yea, but I hope Texas never gets as restrictive or as expensive as Ca. I have noticed that almost all the counties that require emissions testing are centered around SA, D and H, too.
I've just got to get my windshield fixed before October, though, or it will definitely fail!
