Air Intake System Comparison

BRAND HP TORQUE MPG INSTALL TUBE COST
AIRAID 12 18 2 30 MIN PLASTIC 295
K&N 63 15.5 -------- ---- 90 min PLASTIC/RUBBER 295
AFE MAG FORCE 17 21 ---- 60 MIN PLASTIC 280
AF1 25 -------- ---- ------- STAINLESSST 306

The table above is what I got from the manifactures websites and authorized dealer websites pertaining to the intake system. These are for a 05 with a 5.4. Does anyone have anything they can add? Im trying to compare the systems and get the best bang for the buck.

Thanks
David

JLT is by far the best intake for the 3V 5.4! With a good custom tune+JLT the 3V's are getting 30+ rwhp

I have to totally disagree. I took my JLT off last week, replaced the stock intake and threw in a k&n drop in and had improvement both power wise and mileage. Ever since I put it on (along with a cat back) I thought I lost power. Stupid me I thought it was the cat back. Maybe that thing works in a cold place or a lab somewhere but in south Florida in July it just sucks hot air and makes noise. This is the first mod I wasted money on. I fought with that thing for a month trying different tunes and what not. Didn't work for me.

Go with AF1. It should yeild the best, or close to the best hp/tq through all RPM range and it won't lean your engine out too bad like the K&N and the other intakes do.

x2 on the AF1. The 3" requires no tuning, the 3.5" does.

Sometimes on these boards it seems like initial cost is the only thing that folks care about. No consideration given as to what these mods may do to their engines.

The main reason I went with the 3" AF1 is that it will not cause a lean condition. A bonus is that the stainless steel just looks freakin' cool when I pop the hood.. lol

I'll stick with the Volant cold air induction system. With that & a Edge on level 2 I have 289RWHP on dyno.

Nope. Not even close to what can be acheieved:

Redneck: good start - but what's missing is whether or not a MAF TF correction is required (e.g custom tuning to ensure the intake is safe).

Problem with this is, that manufacturers typically won't tell you. JLT and AF1 are the only two that do specify this up front. S&B say no, but has since been proven wrong, as has K&N and Volant, to name a couple.

Cheers.

Didn't S&B redesign their CAI? They claim 18rwhp without needing a tune.
I like their design the best. Looks + closed for off-roading!!

Im running an Edge. I know its not custom tuning but Im sure it will help to a degree.

I know I can run the 3 in AF1 without a custom tune. Anyone know about the AFE or the K&N 63?

Thanks
David
