Talking Exhaust Help

I have read about every post on the exhaust part of this forum and I have learned a great deal. I was curious what you guys thought would be my best choice for exhaust for my 1997 4.6 V-8. I am wanting something that helps out on mpg, something that has a nice rumble but i definately dont want it to drone out the cab when heading down the highway. I was looking at the magnaflow catback and borla catbacks but I was wanting some peoples opinion. My truck has the original exhaust on it and it is about time to replace it. Let me know what you guys think.

Magnaflow is what you're wanting by your description. You can go cheap by just swapping out the mufflers. I had my exhaust installed for $240. I got a SIDO Magnaflow muffler with mandrel bent pipes. I bought two 4x18 polished SS tips for $60. For a total of $300.

I went with the Borla SI/SO and couldn't be happier. Got better mileage, has just the sound you describe, nice rumble/growl when you get on it, can't hear it at all in the cab when cruising. It's a bit more expensive than the Magnaflow (another good choice). It was $499 shipped. Took me about an hour and a half to install.

I have to say that when I first put it on I almost thought it was TOO quiet, though a huge improvement over stock. It's gettin' louder though now that I'm getting miles on it. Sounds pretty nice!

I am looking at spending around $400 bucks. I want something that looks clean and I am more then capable of doing the labor myself. Where do you guys recommend purchasing the exhaust?

You should check your local muffler shops. I had mine done locally.
