Wink Magnaflow 16614 Installed

My Magnaflow 16614, SIDO, arrived yesterday and I had it installed. VERY nice kick in the rear when accelerating and Edge is telling me MPG is better. It is somewhat louder than I had hoped. Nice quiet idle, and nice roar at WOT but something of a drone at highway speed and part throttle acceleration. Kinda' like sitting right beside the engines when flying in a jet. For a CAI I had gone with an Airaid Jr. to make sure I didn't get the drone some others were complaining about with the AF1 and it sounded perfect. No sound at idle but great at WOT. I shouldn't have worried about it, I can't even hear it at all now with the new exhaust... lol. I'll be taking a road trip Sunday so I'll see what kind of frowns my wife gives me.

Some numbers results: 2006 Scab 5.4l 3.55
Stock MPG 14.2 combined city/highway,
Edge level 2 14.6 if I took it easy. 17.2 highway at 75 mph
Edge at level 3 with 93 oct. combined city/highway 15.2
Edge at level 3, Airaid Jr. and Mag SIDO MPG is holding about 15 with FREQUENT trying out of new acceleration and exhaust sound! It hasn't helped that Ky just raised limit on I65 to 70mph.

Level 2 with stock intake and exhaust I pulled 16.56 @83.5 quarter mile according to Edge, decent for that much weight

Gonna' run another quarter tonight to see what kind of improvement I've gotten.

I don't mean to imply that it is a real bad drone but I notice it. It is not too noticeable when the radio is on but if you have the music fairly low, the drone will mix with the bass of the music. And with the radio off, it is a constant reminder.
I was hoping that the rear exit would help. It does look good though and it is a blast cruising around. I may get used to it. The sound from outside the truck is absolutely awesome.

I really wanted to get a Corsa but just couldn't swing the $$$. They say there is absolutely no drone at all and the sound clips on the site seem to back it up. If my wife throws a fit, I may wish I had sprung for it.

Alright quick question. I recieved my 16614 yesterday but still a little confused. I bought the 16614 for my 06' Screw with a 5.5' bed and oem tow package. magnaflow said this was alright and even specifically asked what bed length mine was.

So what was your bed length

Did you have the tow package

And what was the installation process like (shop do it? or how long/hard(lol) was the install)?

I've got 6 1/2 bed. I think the exact place where you cut off the old system is determined by the bed length. Mine cut off about 2 inches behind the muffler.
Yes, I have the tow package and that is where the fun came in.
The install took longer than expected. The website indicated that the hangers would need some modification due to the towing package. The shop that did the install ended up welding on their own hangers to make it work. They even called Magnaflow but the instructions they tried to give them didn't even come close. Evidently they had a different diagram entirely. It wasn't a big deal for the shop but it would have been a nightmare for me trying to do it in my garage. It ended up costing me $135 to have it installed. The pipes were well made and lined up very good. They did have fits installing one of the hangers in the rubber mount. The nub on the end was rather large and it took both of them to force it into place. After all was said and done though, they were pretty impressed with it. Although I had ordered the kit on line, they had just become a Magnaflow dealer and this was the first Mag system they had installed and they seemed happy with what they had seen.

Edge at level 3 with 93 oct. combined city/highway 15.2

First off, my wife HATES the exaust! She agrees that it sounds great WOT and idling but the part throttle noise gets annoying. I may look at adding a resonator before the muffler although a Magnaflow XL may help. Two emails to Magnaflow tech support have gone unanswered. Any one have experience with resonators beside those little tailpipe jobs on rice burners?

Quarter mile times were a surprise.

Level 3 gave me was showing good pulling good out on the highway, kicking down at 70 jumped to 90 within seconds. It felt sharp but the numbers showed otherwise.
Quarter mile gave me 16.64 at 83.5 mph, a loss of performance compared to my pre-magnaflow level 2!
I put it back on level 2 and the story changed, 16.15 at 85.8
The new exhaust was worth .41 seconds 2.3 mph

Yep, not exactly the results I was expecting. I am going to play around with some custom settings in both level 2 and 3 and see what happens.
I think a slight bump in timing and WOT fuel may get me close to sub 16. If I can get that big barge into the 15s approaching 90mph I will be grinning big!

One thing to keep in mind, I think it's true of pretty much all cat-backs, the thing is gonna get somewhat louder as you get miles on it.

I put a Borla SI/SO on my '05 4.6L screw and I originally thought it was TOO quiet. I've got a little over 2k miles on it now and it's certainly getting a bit louder. It had a nice rumble from the git go but now it's more what I was looking for to begin with. More of a deeper and louder growl now.

Just bear that in mind, if you think (or the wife thinks) the sound is too loud right after you've installed it.. well, it's gonna get a bit louder as it's broken in/worn.

Not that that's a bad thing!

I don't know if it makes a difference but I just got the single out MagnaFlow system installed and when I'm just cruising over 45 mph you can't even tell if there's anything on there. On the highway I set it to cruist control and it sounds like I still have the stock one on. Just my input

It isn't all speeds that I have the sound. At low to mid speeds and RPMs it is very acceptable. At higher highway speeds it starts getting louder, seeming to be loudest around 2,000 RPM.
The same way with acceleration at part throttle. At about 1,800 RPMs it gets real resonate, peaks at about 2,000 RPM and then starts going back down. Not too bad if you are taking off at a brisk clip but real annoying if you are trying to watch the mileage or sitting in stop and go traffic.

I began wondering if my EDGE was causing it and set it back to stock. The problem was less noticeable but was still there. I have noticed however, the the RPM range that it is really annoying fluctuates slightly with the tune that I have installed but it stays around the 2,000 RPM area.

One of the first things I did was try blocking the drivers side tip to see if the backpressure change and pipe length change would make a difference. It didn't seem to change.

I am thinking of trying the 22" 5x11 SIDO muffler. I am afraid though that it will make the idle and WOT too quite though. I do enjoy blipping the throttle and listening to that healthy growl.
