new guy fx2

well i just owned my very first truck ever for only 1 month now. im slowly picking up the lingo and other interesting stuff thanks to all you guys at this forum. with that said,

what does it mean if your truck runs lean in reference to an intake? is it bad or good? what is it?

now i know the forum bible states im not supposed to ask which intake is better because i can use the search button and find out myself, correct? plus 80% of you truck goers luv your troyer performance intake!
next question is

whats the difference between tuning or not tuning your truck when u get an intake? why would u get a 3" or 3.5" intake?
will a k&N air charger 63 series ruin my truck somehow?

Basically lookin to put a k&n intake for gas milage n the little extra power but i dont want to ruin my truck in any way!

everybody feel welcome to reply even if you think its common knowledge. i welcome all replies, they will help. thanks and ill post some pics of my lift and wheels soon.

CAI questions

New guyFx2,welcome to the world of Ford trucks. You will find alot of good knowledgable people on this site who always share their info.A lean condition is more air than fuel being introduced into the engine, thats why you have o2 sensors,to adjust the air/fuel ratio and keep it where it should be.When you speak of "tuning",I assume you are talking about a tuner for your computer,Edge,Troyer,Diablo.A tuner allows you to "adjust" or change the parameters of your computer like, timing, trans. shift points, change or remove your rev limiter, tire size,if you have gone to a larger tire/wheel combo.to take advantage of the performance your truck is possible of.The idea is to add all the goodies you want, intake, exhaust, gears, and the tuner works them all together for better performance and sometimes increased fuel economy.I have a K&N 77 series on my truck,I installed it and forgot about it,they work great and they wont ruin your truck I think a CAI is usually the first mod alot of people do to their trucks,it was mine.I hope this helped w/ some of your questions, good luck.
