2 Exhaust Questions

1. I currently have a Lightning style SI/DO (exit in front of rear wheel) Magnaflow and was thinking about cutting it and just have turndowns welded to the muffler.
Q: Will there be any audible difference?

2. I was also thinking about maybe going to a SI/SI muffler like the Dyno Max Bullet, round Magnaflow,or a Flow Master Super 44.
Q: Is there a big difference in sound compared to my normal setup and is there a down side going to a SI/SO on our 5.4L?

Thanks in advance!

Mufflers

When you cut your tailpipes and dump your exhaust @ the mufflers, the sound will be noticeably louder. The Flowmaster will be the loudest, the Magnaflow will be quieter than the FM and I've never heard the Dynomax,so I cant offer you an opinion on the sound. Also, the shorter the muffler the louder the muffler is.Hope this helps, good luck w/ your exhaust.

Just leave the lightning style, but make it straight pipes! Thats what i have, and its not really all that loud until you get on it, then it sounds bad ***! I have had 7 exhausts, and i was never happy. I have had flowmaster, dynomax, magnaflow, etc.... I never liked it at all until i did the straight pipes... My 05 just has two cats, and thats all i have on it... It just sounds bad ***! The sound is unexplainable! You should give it a try!

So do you weld the two exhaust pipes to a y pipe? Know what I mean. Its not illegal to run no muffler and will there be any problems at inspection time? Got pics of your set up? The sound does not sound glass pack sounding or obnoxious when you get on the gas? Thanks.

One membersaid I would get more drone and more exhaust gases in the cab, but it would be dumped beyond the rear of my SC. Does his two comments jive?

I think the word you are looking for is "unrefined"......

Exhaust sound

I dumped my exhaust @ the mufflers for about two days, the sound and drone inside the cab was a bit much for me,I was running the FM 40 series mufflers and a Bassani X pipe.If you like a LOUD,agressive sound, then this is the set-up for you.I had turdowns welded on @ the muffler, they dumped just
in front of the rearend,I didn't notice any exhaust gases in the cab.I installed a set of Magnaflows,(p/n 14377)nice rumble @ idle, especially w/ the X,nice and quiet on the highway, except when you step on the gas,it roars nicely,I'm very pleased w/ the Magnaflows.I hope this answer your exhaust questions, good luck.

You can't judge something unless you have experienced it yourself... It sounds better than you think, and is far from unrefined... Its really not that loud until you get on the throttle heavily...

Well I'm glad my truck sounds like a truck should (IMHO) and not a Corvette or Mustang...
