Shorty vs Longtube

Hi guys,

With some summit bucks, I can damn near get a free set of shorty headers...however, I see alot of people only recommend Longtubes.

For sake of argument: Here's what I've researched so far and feel free to chime in more info as necessary

Shorty headers:
a. Inexpensive
b. Can bolt to stock piping with no other modifications (yeah right!)

Long tube:
a. Reasonable to very expensive
b. Essentially need a custom exhaust

Now, from what I've read. Alot of the long tuber's usually eliminate the cats or use free-er flowing high flows. This eliminates the bottleneck that occurs when NOT replacing them when using shorties. Hence, when guys are running shorties, they aren't experiencing much HP gain because, yes, more air is getting out, but its bottlenecked at the cats. Long-tubers dont experience this because they're eliminating those cats right away...

Where exactly can I get these higher-flowing cats and the piping?

I don't mind the cheap setup because I'll probably have another F150 before it becomes a problem. Whats your take fellaz? (Please state why if you object...)

Shorties are a waste of money. I gained no hp or torque anywhere with them. I put on dynatech long tubes, didnt loose any power down low, gained 30hp and 35ftlbs at around 3500rpm. It took 2 hours to get my shorties off and have the long tubes bolted on. It also took about $40 to have my pipe custom fit to my headers. No big deal.

Built54, did you have the shorties on with the high flows?

Did you ever run the long tubes with the stock cats?

Thanks.
